I just had this wonderful thought. Multiplay are probably going to get about 300+ cheques in the post tomorrow, now, as there are only 250 places available at the LAN party, it is possible that someone who was in the first 80 or so to register for quake has his envelope containing cheque opened after, (according to the multiplay rules), all 80 quake places have been allocated, and hence misses out. Erm, this strikes me as a little bit of a hit or miss affair as when you're envelope get's opened is luck of the draw, I mean, what if there's a postal delay or something, is there any mechanism in place to ensure this type of thing doesn't happen ?
I mean, I may be wrong, but from the email I got back, even though it says a place has been earmarked for me, it then says, this actually means nothing, all that matters is when we get your cheque/postal order, hence my concerns raised above.
It would be easy to cross-reference payment and booking number and allocate places based on this sort of system, ie register as soon as possible, and, that holds a place for you, you then have a week to send in your cheque to claim the place, if, after the weeks up you ain't paid, then the place goes to the next booking reference in line. Simple, as it's a computerised system, tracking all this would be dead easy.
