I just wanted to say what a great job Wizzo is doing. He never mentions it on the board, but I'm now gonna out him as a damn clever medical student chappie. To those of you who are uninitiated, medical students work their bums off and have little life. Wizzo manages to balance tons of work with sorting out all your emails and getting back on time. Not only that but he always seems to be posting at all hours of the night/morning. I know he always gets back really quickly to people, and he hasn't asked me to say this, but please be a little bit forgiving if he occasionally doesn't get back to you within an hour or two!

*blushes*

My secret's out :-). I do try my best to answer everyone's queries as quick as possible, but sometimes I just don't have time when I have to write more code into the database or have to drag myself to lectures and practicals. It's always nice to see that my efforts don't go unnoticed though. It makes it even more worthwhile.

Anyway, time to pack. I'll be putting up the spectator forms on Sunday, probably along with the lifts section (but no promises on that one).

Wizzo is doing an amazing job - I reckon every single person should buy him a pint at the end!
Howabout it Wizzo? Fancy being deluged by 300 pints of beer? http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Well, I've got a reputation to live up to m8 from our previous lan parties, i.e. expect to find me drunk at the bottom of the steps somewhere unable to move :-).

I'll never say no to a pint. In fact, I think we should have a few boatraces between the teams.

Hehehehe, and for a few bucks I can tell you a few secret stories about Wizzo as well!

Of course I accept money from you as well Craig to not tell all those things you get up to at LAN parties and birthdays<g>!

Being only a "Quake Player" I would like to thank Uprising, Wizzo, Sniper and everyone else who works behind the scenes making events like Insomnia 99 work.

OK thats the Thanks over with.

I would like to add that I am totally disgusted by the atitude by the AoE club at your invitation to come to the Lan. I have not posted this to the AoE message board as a flame war is not required. But bloody hell, it seems to me as if they think Wireplay is run for their own conveniance and that any other game is an intrusion into their universe. A simple No Thankyou would have sufficed but "tout your event elsewhere" is downright rude.

The terms immature and lower mental capacity are quite insulting to the Quake community, as Uprising said in one of his posts to them, the ability to switch off and lose yourself in a little violence doesn't make you mindless for christsake.

Quakers appear to be a lot more close knit from conversations just on mirc and QW but I can see now that they are far more community spirited on a social level aswell, way above the other gamers.

AoE, I pity you and your brethren, good at strategy you may be but your interpersonal skills suck.

Get a life.

Get out and meet ppl.

This may not have been the right thread to bring this up, but I know that it's going to get read by Wizzo, Uprising et al. Our thanks is warm and sincere, we are going to enjoy this event a lot.

I know we are all looking forward to it and getting stuck in with
a bit of Quake/Q2/Halflife/Tribes/,
a bit of Drinking
and a lot of Socialising with our mates.

I also read that AOE thread after seeing Tigs mention it and I was disgusted... I'm not a Quaker although I do have the occasional game and on the whole I've found it a friendly community (apart from being laughed for asking how to hide the console etc http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif)...

Anyway, I intend to meet up with some people I already know there and make lots of new friends, on top of which I'm going to have a blo.ody good time... I just couldn't believe the negative attitude towards the event and Quakers from those connected to AOE... If they hadn't wanted to go they could have ignored the thread - they certainly didn't have to slag off Uprising who as far as I'm concerned has spent most of the last week defending the notion that strategy gamers should have the right to turn up...

They all seemed incredibly naive in thinking that WirePlay was created for them - not realising that their humble subscriptions probably didn't go too far in setting up AOE and more recently ROR on the servers... It seems a shame that an event which is bringing WirePlay together can be so openly slated by people who by there own admission are supposedly mature adults...

Anyway, moan over, I also didn't want to flame them on their home territory but wanted to express my disbelief at their attitude and say a big thank you to Uprising for doing his best to encourage a complete WirePlay cross section and to Wizzo and the others for all their hard work...

Cheers m'dears

I agree, IMO Wizzo does a good job. What we mustn't forget is that he is a 'medical student' yes, that has the word student i it. Can't be that much hard work surely?
/me now hides in a corner while someone reminds the boardreaders that I am in fact, a FULL time student, and dont have a job http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

OH, and BTW Wizz, I'm kiddin, I know medical students are at work till all hours of the mornin doing amputations http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif and stuff.
Steve, I havent looked at the AOE board yet, but I will now. Just drop that 'Q2' from the list of games to be played, before I go getting into a car with you please http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

I gotta say thanks to wizzo too - if it weren't for him i wouldn't be able to come at all thanks to his personal attention to each and every form going in (i imagine both a boring and extremely monotonous task) to sift mine out after i put those "different" details in and not just refusing me entry outright. He knows hes gettin a beer from me and some other stuff too *cough*pr0n*cough* although ruin, russ and auto'd probably be more well equipped at such duties. Anyway I fink wizzo's a dude expecially after long winded conversations over icq about lan **** and still bein friendly with it and not a right shirty ******* which i would be sorely tempted to be if i was bombarded witht hat godam belgian womans voice on icq.

Russ just me being pedantic

"I know we are all looking forward to it and getting stuck in with
a bit of Quake/Q2/Halflife/Tribes/,
a bit of Drinking
and a lot of Socialising with our mates"

where does it say that MOI ( Me, Myself and I) will be playing Quake 2.

That is a horrible horrible slur and my solicitor will be in touch, a cool 75,000 should cover it. get your mum to sell the Bungalow. http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
