View Full Version : o YES DVD FILMS
So why should i have dvd as a vidio player what is wrong with the tape player???
i canot see the advantage of spending 4X as much for slight better quality???
------------------
ermm Slightly better quality aaaaah yes...
Samsung 709 - 229.99 from Richer Sounds. or get it from linkonline in Peterborough with a region 1 modification.
The quality of the playback either video or audio is not slightly better, the video in actaul quantitive and qualitive terms (measuring resolution and depth) is twice as good as video. And that would be if the video tape was perfect, Video tapes degrade at a geometric rate everytime they are played. DVD's are the same as CD's they don't well not so that you would notice.
They will also deliver Theatre Quality sound (DTS,AC3) where a video can not.
You haver to ask yourdelf, how much do you like your films? In a few months DVD's will be below the 200 quid mark and by the end of 2000 below the 100 quid mark. This is of course for a standalone DVD and not a DVD drive for a comp.
AD1999 i was like you a few months back. All my chums were getting DVDs and I couldnt see the point. Then I saw R1 Matrix at my mates house and I could have wept. Its so much crisper and stuff that its like getting a 3d card for the first time.
Go see a film at a mates.

Most people argue that DVD players cannot record and yes this is a viable excuse not to buy one but to be honest how many people held back from buying a CD player because that did'nt record? Do u see? :)

DVD players can record tho...
the only drew back is that they tend to cost £1000+>>>
------------------
In response to ScuD, the CD was (mostly) replacing the record (LP) that was non-recordable too.
But anyway I just got a DVD and it is way cool even with an old TV set - saving up for a new one...

i first used my player with an old 21" tv and was still impressed with the quality over vhs, but it wasnt till i got myself a 32" widescreen tv and a dolby digital amp and 5 speaker/subwoofer setup that you really do gasp in awe at what DVD can achieve.
Go for it man :)

I don't just slob infront of the tv, but when i do i like the best, and the reason i spent so much is cos i can afford it :)

Yeah, Like I have only a few DVD's (about 30) about 300+ Video's but I know which I prefer.
Save up and get yourself the biggest F' off TV/DSP/DVD player and Digital Satelite/cable and your gonna be sorted for years!!
Enjoy !!

Lo,
i had this argument down the pub when i first bought my telly.....
Went a bit like this...
ME: Just bought a Big telly....pretty cool ****es all over old 14".
M8: U **** wot u want such a big telly for. Spend ure cash on somik worthwhile..
ME: O and ive just bought a DVD.
M8: Wots the matter with VHS???? its just as good
I then took him round to see it.........
Hes got a 28" WEGA on order from the Sony center....
The point is u have to see it to believe it... I dont watch a lot of telly, mostly films from the Video, i used to prefer the Cinema... But the set up i got now ****es all over the Cinema for Crystal clear picture all i need now is the Amp and a few more speakers and i need only visit the Local Multiplex to keep the Ball and chain happy :)
Go and have a Demonstration...... Trust me ull be writing a check before the 2nd scene in Matrix :)

a good cinema is the best...ideally do both.
only problem with a big tv is that, er, they start to weigh quite a bit...
