I've had my DvD player a few months now and have been building up a collection of films.

All I can say is I rarely buy a region 2 disk cos...

1. There is only about 600 titles compared to near 5000 on Region 1.

2. U get sod all extras on region 2 DvDs.

3. U can have films way way before region 2 peeps and in some cases before its even in the cinema here. (Inspector Gadget out on R1 now cinema here Jan)

4. Don't blow loads on a player...Panasonic DVDA-160 regions 1-6 for £329. And u can get extended warrenty to cover chip and player. Auto senses region 1 DvDs and no messing about with poxy menus.

5. www.play247.com (http://www.play247.com) for all Region 1 and 2 DvDs..Cheaper than UK DvD and only in Jersey. Posted by Recorded delivery. Example. I ordered Deep Blue Sea from em for £15.99 should be here next tuesday result :)

6. If u can get a Dolby Digital AMP cos the sound is unreal...Far better than pro logic. Toshiba make a widescreen telly that has this built in and it sounds fantastic.

7. Try to use S-VHS instead of scart connection as pic quality is better and if u have a doldy dig amp get a optical lead cos that rocks.

8. If u have a puter DvD player and wanna multi region it go: http://www.visualdomain.net/ That should help u patch it up.

God that killed some lunch time :) Hope this helps peeps. And nice to see a DvD forum :)

from my experience, a tv with a built in audio decoder doesn't *really* stand up against a proper amp...

lipsync is my only major grudge against dvd...when that goes, I'll get one. oh, and i'm not too keen to get a film only to see it not play on my machine.

Hmmmm....

I've just got DVD and i was wondering about the conections...

I have a Sony 32" WEGA Nicam and a Sony 525 DVD player at the moment i got them connected via scart....should i have S-Vid and seperate Sound cable going to my telly?

Means ill have to take them in the front... which will bugger up the look of the telly :)

is there a big difference????

And a Q about the sound as well....
Dont know if i got the right end of the stick but..... isnt an AMP set up better that a telly with Dolby Surround??

Dunno much about this..... i'mm still picking my jaw up off the ground when i watch Matrix.... i used to own a 14" mono... so ive been out of the Home Entertainment section for awhile :)

that sony tv will probably do SVHS into the tv through one of its scart sockets. Even if the player doesn't do svhs out thru the scart socket, you can get one of them scart-to-cabley bits cables. www.maplins.co.uk, (http://www.maplins.co.uk,) or something.

separate amps all the way. and stuff.

yup hes right about that
your sony tv will have two scart sockets, one of which will be capable of s-vhs through scart socket
the adapater doesnt cost much

s-vhs is actually a panasonic invention you know

Point 4 is wrong m8 as soon as you chip the dvd payer it loses what ever warrenty you had including extended warrentys.

This was made clear to me on the day i purchased my panasonic dvd 150.

Ahhh point 4...I purchased mine from Hughes in good old Suffolk..Got 3 yrs warrenty and that covers the chip which they had pre installed :) So nps there and good warrenty. About 10+ peeps I know have gone and bought same player from Hughes with warrenty...V good deal IMHO.

I got the Toshiba 32 wide(latest model) TV with built in Digital dolby.. I'm down with what u say bout seperate amps but I can't knock the Tosh for sound...It is very good.

S-VHS is the way forward if u have a 100hz TV...Basically S-VHS gives u Puter monitor like performance. So invest and u might be impressed.

On the subject of multi region players be very careful...A m8 went to Curry's and the muppet that worked there told my m8 they sold multi region players and sold him 1...They don't as its against the company policy and my m8 went mental cos Currys staff are retards.

Yep indeed, had to get my samsung chipped from Linkonline at Peterborough due to some idiot saying "Yes it's Multi Region" I shoulda known better and have done a bit more research Before parting with my Wonga.

Link also upgraded the firmware for The Matrix cd at the same time, so I can't grumble about them.

your dvd player might not so svhs out thru the scart socket tho...

either way, as you go through the input selects on your tv, its probably (did on my old sony tv, does on new panasonic one) show, for example, 1, 2, 2s, 3, 3s...etc..the ones with an S are the svhs inputs.

if you select one with an S, but the picture is in black&white, then the chances are that your dvd player isn't sending svhs out the scart. Go to maplins online and find a scart - loads-o-cables cable. Make sure its got an svhs connector, then get one.

One of the Denon dvd players does RGB out...

Is RGB better...... ive just set it all up with S-Vid..... The option menu on my DVD lets me choose wots going down the Scart Vid,S-Vid or RGB...

Now everything is S-Vid.....

Yes thx,

S-vid is far clearer round the edges and i think the colours are better. Ta

Now i just have to figure out the Screen ratios....16:9 2.35:1 .... i failed fractions in school :)

and then i have to deal with sound.... i might have to buy a book...BAH

Forgot to say..... i'm a 'puter engineer who works from home so if i dont have any calls then i stay in bed till 1pm then bugger around allday. Its a hard job but some poor sod has to do it :)

Hehe I used to work for Digital as a PC engineer...stay at home and doss till calls come in...sometimes all day. But ****er when some muppet rings at 4pm when u fink u are clear for the day :(

DvD Review is a good mag m8..sadly 3 issues ago they had a big thing on how to connect and what connections blah blah.

M8 u have to go Dolby Digital on sound front its the only way to really get most out films. If u go that way get a optical cable...

BTW u still a TFCer m8?

And make sure u shop at www.play247.com (http://www.play247.com) for all your R1 films.

tfc clans...umn..get a few asking me.

I'd never played a pro match for tfc ever, so thauron offered to let me play one. For one match, i was ak47.pob.

Match was easy, i wasn't too interested after that. I said that I wanted to play a hard match, so he said he'd try to get one against a full on one against a big-boy. Nothing's happened yet tho.

award for most enthusiastic goes to: FM.Bludgener. he's very enthusiastic to hire me.
