I've got a sammy 709. Haven't really be reading much dvd stuff recently but I want to get the matrix. I heard there were probs with region 1 matrix on this. BUT am i right thinking there are probs with region 2 matrix dvd as well? Is a firmware upgrade required for region 2 or just the region 1 ver? anyone got any details?

It seems to be working now. Try http://194.75.135.1/709/ Matrix region 2 also needs the upgrade.

The Matrix has a lot of DVD - ROm stuff on it and the firmware for the samsung doesn't like it, it will sit and spin for days upon end saying "No Disc" get the firmware upgrade from your local reputable home cinema dealer, or from www.linkonline.com (http://www.linkonline.com)
It is well recommended, by the way when you get the firmware upgrade make sure you get it modded for region 1 aswell. If you ask for region 1 mod at link they upgrade the firmware for nowt!!

The firmware to fix the problem discs on the 709 is free everywhere. Noone should be charging for it and if they are they're ripoff merchants. To enable your 709 to play region 1 disc's you don't need to get Linkonline or anybody else to touch it, all you need is the correct remote control and about 30 seconds. Its so easy when you have the instructions that its laughable. To have anyone go near my 709 with a soldering iron is a scary thought, one slip......
sorry guys i've been such a fool. Just had a look at my player and it's a 807. opps hit me.
BTW the ip of that url was working the other night but not the name but both work now.
Anyway after doing a bit of searching found this on dvdtimes
Region 1 DVD, The Matrix, jumps during playback.
Samsung US are working on a fix which will require a firmware upgrade. This upgrade will not be available to UK owners, but Samsung UK are working on a similar fix for UK machines which should cure the problem. Warner are making efforts to make the Region 2 release work on non-fixed players.
Sorry for being sooo stupid
