View Full Version : Region 2 Rip Off
Why buy region 2 movies or DVD players? With the Internet being so accessible now theres no reason to pay the inflated prices that are charged in this country for DVD films. Average price is between 16 and 19 quid for a movie that you can buy for around 12 from the states in region 1 format and that includes the postage!
Anybody know of a good reason to buy region 2 from this country then let me know. As long as we keep buying at these stupid prices they'll keep selling to us, stop and maybe they'll have a re-think.

it kind of been the same with cd's though. everyone in this country has been complaining for years about the price of cd's over here compared with those in the US. but they still never got any cheaper. if anything they seem to have got more expensive. the industry fat cat's over here will never listen.
personally i've made a point of only buying cd's and dvd's from the US these days. god bless the internet...and amazon too :)

crammus wins a cold sausage roll, for allowing me to see my first ever quadruple post http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/teeth.gif
newayz, i've only got 3 dvd's as of yet, matrix, armageddon and cruel intentions all region 2 and i got 'em all for 14, ll and 14 quid respectfully, i prefer region 2's if ya know where to look (on the net, yalplay: cheapish, but slow delivery, play247: all films around 14 or 15 quid and really quick delivery). i prefer a region 2 'cos it measn i can borrow/loan films from/to my friends and so on, despite the fact remote selector means i can watch any region anyway :)

'K I'll take the bait. There you are in HMV/Our Price etc and you see a DVD you've wanted for ages. Granted it's more expensive than in the US, but it's there right in front of you. You've got cash in your pocket, so do you;
A: Buy it
B: Go home fire up your 'puter, trundle along to www.dvdexpress.com, (http://www.dvdexpress.com,) order it and then wait 4+ days for it to arrive.
Hmmmm......
Another reason, special offers. Doesn't happen very often, but for example before christmas HMV had a buy 4 get one free offer. Now HMV aren't cheap but 4x£15.99=£63.96. The fifth disc could be anything. Pick a £19.99 disc and each disc then cost you £12.79. Not so expensive now! And since the idiots in HMV let you buy the £9.99 disc's as part of the offer you could get 5 DVDs for £39.96!!!!
Still buy most of mine from the State's though.

er, press the menu button.
Ok,so you can sometimes get special offers from HMV and elsewhere but thats not we are talking 'bout (besides the US companies have special offers too, bought Shawshank redemption at £7 including p&p.) Its the principal, do you go into HMV,Virgin or wherever see a DVD that you've wanted for ages (but,probably not since all the new DVDs are in the states months before they are here, i.e bought matrix a full month and a bit before it was released in the UK) and buy it or do you pause, think "I refuse to pay vastly over inflated prices on yet another product in this country, I think ill buy it from dvdempire and do my bit at fighting the system!". Well, yeah you probably buy it, but thats why the damn companies can charge what they like over here, its because we keep shelling out for their product. This would be a good (if impractical experiment) ship the same quantity of Americans over here for a year and we'll go live over there. See if they will pay these stupid prices, say nothing when they get appalling service with it and generally get stuffed in every way that we do over here. Don't think so....the Americans have their faults but they expect a lot from the companies they part money with and so should we. Not just America either, look at Spain and many other countries and you'll find the same. At least in most countries they smile when they are shafting you here they don't even do that!
