Yeah it's good, but The Mummy's real good too. Tough one.

The Matrix is great but the Halloween restored limited edition is wicked. It is THX mastered and has loads of extras. If your into horror films buy this.
Tough 1. I spose Matrix cos Pic, sound and the fact its the biggest seller.
But saying that...The Spy who shagged me...Fun, excellent extras blah blah.
Bugs Life...Picture quality and sound are wicked..Shame sh.ite R2 disc is a facking flipper :(
Deep Blue Sea is a good one too....The Mummy.

The R2 Bugs Life is not a flipper. There is a widescreen version on one side, and the 4:3 on the other (with all the characters/scenes editted to fit everything into this ratio). Either way, a winner.

Um...the Matrix - cos I just got a DVD player for Chrimble and its the only DVD I've got. Ace film tho.
Oh and sorry to spoil this thread but can anyone just help me with aa little problem? Is the Matrix widescreen only cos I cant seem to get it to work in fullscreen on my telly. The intro bit and "the making of..." are both in fullscreen, and I think I've set the player to show films in "pan-scan" as opposed to letterbox format, but the actual film refuses to play in anything but letterbox.
I'm probably missing something completely obvious and sound no doubt horrendously stupid, but could someone help me out :)?
oh stop laughing at me...

Its widescreen only. You can't play it full screen. Most DVD's are widescreen, since thats the way they were filmed. Its big TV time I'm afraid
Is this on comp or a dvd player,on comp if you untick lock on ratio you get what you want, but on my player Toshiba SL2209 is plays every fecking one in widescreen, even when i put it to 4:3 ratio, all that tech and it's fecking WIDESCREEN!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, guess it's big TV time for me then. Now don't tell me I can't access the special "making of" documentaries. There's "What is bullet-time" and I've found "What is the concept", but I can't access "Do you know Kung-Fu" without a DVD-rom, and there's no mention of "Government Building Lobby". Sigh. Guess I'll have to hang on to the video version for a little longer...

Rented a few DVDs, and found that American History X is good too. It can run full-screen on my DVD player and has 3 extra scenes deleted from the original cinema cut in the special features section. Which is nice.
'the matrix' is good but get the US version as the UK one is missing the commentaries.
'Ghostbusters' is brilliant too. the remastering has given is excellent quality and there are tons of features. Same goes for 'the thing'

IMO best R1 DVDs of last year were Brazil and Alien Legacy. Top films with loads of extras.
Just got Taxi Driver on R2 - superb
Just got R1 Aliens spec edition, luvverly, Matrix is damn good too.
Pogue
matrix is the film of the last decade
alien legacy is the perfect dvd collection
saving private ryan is damn good
armageddon criterian is a superb disc
oh the joys of region 1 dvd...god bless the
internet...if anyone could point me to some uk based dvd sites that stock region 1 dvd's
i'd be forever grateful [apart from play247]
Most definatly Star trek insurrection, just got it from www.dvdnorth.com (http://www.dvdnorth.com) for only £14 inc P&P :)
But if I wasn't a star trek fan, the matrix would come top.
The Alien Legacy box set gets my vote.
The amount of extras each disc has is excellent especially Alien with it's heaps of unseen and deleted footage, plus this is the first time in ages i have been able to get Aliens - Special Edition :)
All 4 films are perfect anamorphic tranfers at 2.35:1 with Aliens giving the best picture with a flawless 1.85:1 which is perfect for a big widescreen tv :)
These films would make a worthy edition to R2 but they are only rumoured to be released in March (will prolly slip) which is a shame as i've had the R1 box set for over 6 months now and it cost me £55.

Soundwise they cannot be faulted either with a rocking crisp and clear DD 5.1.

Anyone got army of darkness special edition region 1 or any of the zombie special edition films region 1 want to know if there any good?
cy naked
Erm Zombie films? u need to be more specific as there are loads about.
I have R1 versions of Romero's Dawn of the Dead (theatrical cut) and Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters. Both are uncut (although DOTD has a few different versions) and u WILL NOT EVER get the full uncut version of Zombie Flesh Eaters on R2 so yes go for the R1 version.

Army of Darkness on R1 is great. Its on 2 discs with both uncut and theatrical versions. If you like the Evil Dead films then i say buy it as this is the best version out there. Besides when it comes out over here it will suck. Just look at the R2 version of Evil Dead 2.
