in your answer to your questions

just get stuck in and explore a bit

beregost, nashkel, friendly arms inn, baldurs gate

pretty much everywhere, usually on main characters you can kill to get weapons.

pretty much everywhere. All the areas above have ppl who might join your group.

All the tables and spells are of use.

if you read all the other threads theres quite a bit of help, but its best just to start playing and see what happens.

Hi Ouie m8 - glad to see you got it in the end http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Basically just get stuck in there and start to play it - its very easy to pick up - even I managed it http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/stare.gif If you stick fairly close to the storyline (ie what in-game characters tell/ask you to do) until you've done the Nashkel Mines then you should be quite adpet at whats going on...

Personally I've only just read the manual - quite a while after completing it but the references in-game to what spells, weapons, potions do are just the same as the manual so its easy enough to pick up as you go along...

Have fun m8...

Jeez m8 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Just go with the flow with regard party members... If you save before you talk to anyone new then you can always add them and go back to the save if you don't like the look of them...

As standard you should have at least one fighter, one mage and one thief in your party... This gives you the flexibility you need for most situations... The other three slots can be filled by people that fit your style of play, if you like big fights get some fighters, if you prefer long ranged attacks get some mages - up to you... Personally I just went for the sexy women - so it doesn't really matter http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/shades.gif

Experience points effect the level that you're on... You start the game at level 1 with no experience points (xp)... As you kill monsters and complete missions you get extra experience points... Once you get a certain amount your character 'moves up a level'... You can see this by a small cross which appears at the top right of the character picture - simply go to his profile page, click level up and you'll be able to add extra weapon skillz, thieving proficiencies or spells depending on the character type...

Hope that helps...

maybe i'm missing something, but this ouie dude knows all those characters, yet he's asking for help how to start?

Either hes played it all the way through, or hes got that list of characters from a webby with a full solution. Whatever, he wont be needing help from us http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

Methinks hes just taking the **** a bit.

VELVET

I have seen some lists of just characters without full solutions - the latest issue of the Mutliplayer e-mag for one...

Anyhow - I don't mind - I could write about Baldur's Gate all day - if it didn't get in the way of me playing it http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/shades.gif

dan
25-03-1999, 18:55
me too, but writing about it DOES get in the way of playing it.

OMG i need 1 million points to get to level 10 warrior !!!

630,000 and counting...... it will be a long night http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

ouie
25-03-1999, 23:46
get the april issue of PCGamer with the Aliens vs Prerdator thing on the front-some stuff in there
and how come if i put on armour, the number goes down?
did the game slow down for you lot when you got 6 characters?
how many experience points have you all got? cos i only got 300 odd

[This message has been edited by ouie (edited 25-03-99).]

VELVET

The number which goes down is your armour class rating - as you buy improved shields, armour, helmets and weapons these can all lower your armour class... What this effectively does is lower the damage you take when an enemy hits you - the best armour class I've come across is -13 which I have in one save - makes it much easier to stay alive...

I personally didn't notice any slow down with a big party...

The first time I completed it I ended up with about 75,000 xp for my main character... Since then I've completed it with a fighter/thief/mage multi-class and the xp cap of 89,000 removed... I did this with just the main character and I guess he has around 400,000 xp at the moment...

Cheers

oh yeah, and how come it keeps crashing all the time?
i lost a saved game because it crashed-thankfully i had more than one-especially at the smithy at beregost

dan
26-03-1999, 18:13
oops, soz ouie, i was being over skeptical http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

velvet - how the hell did you get -13 ??? I've tried tons of stuff and can only get -11. Thats using drizzt's defender too.

ouie, try allocating more harddisk space to the games cache. It defaults at 150mb i think, but i increased mine to 500mb which seemed to stop the crashing.

ouie
26-03-1999, 19:16
Do you need to do something to increase to the next level or is it automatic?
And I can't get past all those Hobgoblins on the way to Nashkel with my crap wee guys and I can't get past that place that comes after the Friendly Arm Inn in the opposite direction because of all the dogs and beasties, HELP!!!!!

Some hints.
Do all the little quests within Candlekeep first. You get to pickup a magic dagger etc and the exp and gold all help.
To go up levels, click on the character profile then the Level up button.
Always specialise your main fighter with one weapon. generally Large swords, put all your available weapon slots in that till it wont go higher.
When you're at Nashkel mines, do 2 things, theres a guy whos doing a sculptor, protect him from an assasin and you get a +2 sword which helps out bundles.
There is also a wand of frost in a tree in the top left of the Nashkel mines map.
Save regurlarly and you should be ok to do the mines. Equip Imoen with a bow and arrow and she keeps firing while your main fighters go in and kick butt with their swords and stuff. If you have been to the friendly Arm inn. You pick up two friends of Gorions. They come in handy especially as the druid can cast Heals.(use all her 1st level spells for this)

And maybe its me being cynical, but the game was supplied with a manual (probably) and most of the questions you are asking are answered in there.

the manual's too big and bulky http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gifand i'll only be reading it when i'm not playing anything
so far ive read the first 2 pages http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/redface.gif

VELVET
26-03-1999, 22:24
Okay - to get -13 you need:

Full Plate Armour,
Ring of Protection +2,
Helmet of Balduran (+1),
Cloak of Balduran (+1),
Drizzts Defender +5,

And maybe some other stuff...

Cheers

though i may be wrong in which case never mind

dan
27-03-1999, 21:46
hmmm, where did you get the cloak of balduran from? Ive got all the other stuff so i'll try it tonight. I was using a +2 cloak but i couldnt use a ring of protection as well because the silly game wont allow it http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif

ouie

what is it exactly you do in the mines?
ive been going round in circles for ages with no end in sight
do you have to kill all the kobolds?
kill the leader (whoever that maybe)
collect something from somewhere?

ouie
28-03-1999, 00:13
and how do you get into Baldurs Gate?
and how do you kill they green centipede thingies that come out of the ground near badly gate?

dan
28-03-1999, 01:02
mines - work your way down to level 4 and kill the boss. You dont need to kill anything really just find the stairs down.

baldurs gate - do several things but i wont ruin it by telling you http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif. Its all made clear as you work youre way through the game.

centipede things - hack them up.

eek loads of questions http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

i think ive answered most below.

you cant get into BG for ages yet. You need to complete 2 major missions, the one your on now (find bandit camp), then another.

The gnolls and xvarts arent actually important parts of the story. You dont need to do any of it, although it seems pretty pointless if you dont. It might be worth while doing the areas east of beregost then do all the western areas later in the game.

That sword velvet had is from a character called drizzt d'ourden, who you meet while wandering around. You can kill him to take his stuff, although you wont stand a chance until you have very very experienced ppl (or you cheat like velvet http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif ).

If youve got spare money then buy whatever you feel like. If youre a bit short on money then its better to save up for the really good stuff later on. You should be finding some pretty decent stuff soon anyway.

mages dont wear armour unless you dualclass them with a fighter. They wear mage robes but you dont really find many good ones until later in the game. Just keep your mage at the back and they'll be fine.

You usually get a magic item when you kill someone to complete a quest. Just do the areas east of beregost and you'll find a few people you can kill for items.

I think thats everything http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

ouie
28-03-1999, 19:47
ok ta but
what are gems for? ive got hundreds of them
is a 2 handed sword worth sacrificing a shield?
what do you do with an ankeghm (or something) skull? the beasties that are green and shoot a green goo out at u
it says its valuable, is it a helmet?

dan
28-03-1999, 20:05
lol, not more questions http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

I think the idea of these games is too just play and see what happens. Still, here goes...

Gems - sell them

Maybe, if its a nice sword. Depends on how much you care. The best thing to do is just try things out and see what happens.

Ankheg shells can be taken to that smithy guy in beregost and he'll make some nice armour for you (if youve got 4000gp spare).

If you really are serious with all these questions then i'd advise you to just play and work them out yourself. Its not that i mind answering them all or anything, but it seems like i'm playing your game for you http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

i cant think of anything in the game that could cause problems to anyone whos prepared to spend a bit of time experimenting.

besides, thats the whole point of rpg's

VELVET

Wow Dan - you've been busy m8 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif

I think there was only one question left unanswered and that was about the cloak of Balduran... You'll have probably found the helmet hidden somewhere in the Helm & Cloak in Baldur's Gate... The cloak is with a woman in the undercellar - shes about the only one with a proper name... Personally I pickpocketed it off her but you could always just hack her to bits...

Cheers m8

ta dan, just one more question for all:
how good was your character after 28 days of playing time?
cos my guys are only level 2

dan
29-03-1999, 13:35
lol!!!

i'd completed the game about four times then.

All my characters were on the 89,000 exp limit. (level 8-9)

ouie
29-03-1999, 18:23
45 days past and only level 3/4 ppl, i think im doing something wrong http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif
and last question (promise) about the game, what do i need to do to complete bandits quest? kill the leader or every one of them?

VELVET
29-03-1999, 18:52
Ouie - have you actually got the Bandit Camp shown on your map???

You can only complete the Bandit Camp quest if you've found out where it is... When you finish the mines the guy you kill has letters which detail who you need to see to find out where the camp is - I could tell you but that would be giving the game away - if you're really stuck though then ask me tonite...

Cheers

the chap is a tazok or summat who wrote the letters
i met him on my first encounter with the bandits when i was taken away by the person with the name, tazok beat the **** out of me so i just reloaded and killed the bandit with the name
was he the key to this? http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/worry.gif cos he's long gone

ouie
29-03-1999, 22:24
oh yeh, and i havent found the bandit camp, unless it has a name

VELVET
29-03-1999, 22:49
That guy was important in some respects but I'll post the solution as it had me running round for weeks after I killed him...

If you go upstairs in the Feldepost Inn in Beregost you'll find a guy called Tranzig in the west room... He'll either tell you where the Bandit Camp is or after killing him you'll find documents detailing where the Bandit Camp is...

Have fun...

dan

actually, there are also 2 bandits in 2 different areas of the wood of sharp teeth, who will both tell you where the bandit camp is. You can either kill them, and they surrender and tell you, or you can ask to join the bandits in which case they'll take you to meet tazok.
