View Full Version : how does multiplayer work?
when u start a game, its like starting a single player game
so how do other ppl join in and stuff
I'm back http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/teeth.gif
Only to find Tigs and Dan have left a question unanswered - tut tut http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif
Basically Ouie the multiplayer is the same as the single player but your party can contain 1 or more real life players and their characters... You can still pick up other NPCs along the way if you have enough spaces (on WirePlay you can only have 4 multiplayers leaving room for 2 NPCs)...
You are allowed to set the permissions so that everyone in the multiplayer game can do what they want, when they want or make it so they have to do what the party leader is doing...
The saved games can be reloaded for other multiplayer games and allow you the opportunity to drop anyone from the party, bring in different characters or have other players join in...
Unfortunately the multiplayer code isn't too great - unless you're Dan http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/worry.gif

yep i have to admit, i've been neglecting my question answering duties http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
I will have to find out why are network worked so damn well, i do seem to be the only person who can do it.
Try using just one copy of the game between 6, maybe thats it http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
welcome back velvet, now more questions
-what happens when you start a new game and you're in candlekeep and someone else joins in?
they cant assume the role of gorion's son/daughter or whatever, cos you would already be like that
-is there a use for the cursed scroll of ugliness?
-how many hit points has your character got and what level are they?
-what do you think is better, an invoker or enchanter?
-what's better, a short sword+2 or a longsword+1?
and i seem to be getting the hang of the game now, just firewine and greywolf left to do of what u said and i finally sold my damn 2 handed sword+3 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/frown.gif

here's a techy question
why is baldur's gate soooooo slow on my PC
the game stutters when im fighting and some responses are slow
ive turned graphics down to minimal which helped slightly but not by that much
will the patch do any good?
i got a 250mb cache set for badlurs
it also pauses briefly when i enter certain rooms
PC specs:
cyrix m2 300mhz
96mb ram
36x CD
V550 video card which happens to be uncertified
4.3gb HDD + 1.6gb HDD

is my PC just too ****???? http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/worry.gif
Doh! I should have just stayed away I think http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/stare.gif
When playing multiplayer the party leader (who props the game) is treated as Gorion's son/daughter but the rest of the party get to see the same video clips etc...
I haven't found a use for the cursed scroll of ugliness but you certainly wouldn't catch me using it on Branwen http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
I have lots and lots of characters but my record is 103 hit points (using the cap remover)...
Hmm - I prefer the bog standard mage but at a push I'd rather be an invoker...
The sword thing will depend on your weapon proficiencies and type of character... Having said this I always thought the short sword a bit girly but I guess it has some merits...
Your PC spec sounds fine - although you might benefit from a new graphics card... I use an S3 Virge 3D AGP which I find does the job (in conjunction with a 12mb Voodoo2) but other than that I have a similar spec... If you can increase the size of your cache though you will notice a big difference... Personally I have the cache set to maximum (1024mb ) and I've also copied most of the map details into it (from all the disks) which takes it up to 1.54gb... This drastically reduces the loading time of new maps and stops it crashing a lot... If you haven't got this much room then it might be worthwhile copying all the files for the current cd you're on when first prompted for it - after you've deleted the previous contents of the cache... Just a thought...

cheers http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
but i only got my V550 last week cos i needed a 2d/3d card-all PCI slots taken and i dont have AGP
i would have got a voodoo banshee but it hates cyrix
the v550 hasnt been certified by MS, and baldurs gate specifically said directx approved driver for it
directx is at version 6.1 which has been having problems, do you or anyone else use this and have problems?
I've been using DirectX 6.1 since its unofficial beta release and I haven't had any problems...

does multiplayer not have an 89000xp limit?
It does as far as I know but there are programs which allow you to remove it...
which program & where do i get it from?
I think you should complete it first Ouie - not that you'll be anywhere near 89,000xp yet...
well im on 30000 http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/teeth.gif
