Gp3 Crashing to the Desktop

I have a problem with GP3 crashing to the desktop for no reason whilst in a race. I have a p3 733, Voodoo 3 3000 AGP with latest drivers 1.5.02 on, Sound Blaster 16 PCI, MS FF Joystick, 128mb PC133 ram and DirectX 8.0.

I run the game at 1024x768 with full detail on.

Anyone any idea why its crashing to the desktop?

Its doing me head in :)

Have you got the latest sound card drivers?

Some people are reporting that this is casuing problems.

Also isn't DirectX 8 still in beta form?

This could well be causing erratic behaviour in the game.

Ive just done a clean install of Windows 98 to take Directx 8.0 which was still in beta off and Directx 7a back on, hopefully this will stop it crashing. If not i'm taking the game back to the shop :eek:

Yeah that did the trick thanks, ive had loads of races and it aint crashed yet, it seems DirectX 8 beta was screwing the game up, I bet its DirectX 8 that has been crashing Soldier Of Fortune as well. Anyone else having similar probs to what I had in GP3 get rid of DirectX 8 until its officially released :tweetie:

I personally would just stick with the version required on the box (version 7.0A?) until such time as you are required to upgrade, betas are just that and can be a pain in the ass to remove at times if they do screw things about.

A shot in the dark but you may also want to check what other programs you are running at the same time (like stuff in the system tray) as those are suspected when mine crashed at the weekend.
