At present i have a P2 400mhz system with 128Mb of ram


is it worth upgrading considering the benifits and price?

It depends, what Graphics card do you have, and what mobo too and also rough budget for the new stuff?

Nope..it's srap mate. Chuck it while the dustbin guy will still take it.

Either that or pick yourself up a new board, a 700mhz+ processor and a Geforce or better card. Tha ram is fine by the way.

I have motherbord that can only take up to a 450mhz P3

and i have a banshee at the mo, but will be getting a geforce 2

A P2 400,is not quite dead yet,I'd by the geforce now and probably upgrade the CPU & motherboard in the new year.

The next generation of shooters will ask for p2 400 as minumum eg Halo,Tribes 2 and Max Payne but for now your ok!

With a Geforce DDR or GTS it should have a some life left in it yet, but as Thorne says the next wave of new games will be asking for P2 400 minimum.
For now you could try overclocking your cpu to 450-500 Mhz to get you buy a while.
