View Full Version : Are Manchester City serious?

I am the only one to think that Manchester City are wasteing their money?

I mean, c'mon! Ugo Egiogu for £7,000,000!? Paolo Wanchope for £4,500,000 (And I used to watch him remember, in his Derby days) and George Weah, albeit on a free transfer, but £30,000 per week wages? I mean, Weah hardly took the premier league by storm last year did he!?

I mean, there must be better ways of spending money, especielly for a newly promoted club. I feel they should take a lesson from Southampton, Bradford and (natch) Derby :E

What does everyone else think?

Nah Wreah is a good buy especially on a free transfer. Personally I think Egiogu should be in the England squad and Wanchope well errrrrmmmmm .......

Weah is capable of scoring loads of goals, on his own and with the right service.

I personally felt that Chelsea weren't good enough service wise for Weah to score the hat-trick every game he promised. But Weah definately showed the class that made him a hero in Milan.

Wouldn't it be funny if Weah got his first hat-trick of the season against Chelsea, now that would be something to shout about :tounge:

It's so good to see Manchester City in the top league, but the season's getting up from Division 2 has done them the world of good. :)

I think man city have done well with good buys¬!

Pixie Pete

The quality of the players is not the point. The fact is that they have spent £11,500,000 on 2 players, and are paying a striker, albeit a good one £30,000 per week wages.

Leicester managed to stay up, and win things in the premiership with limited funds, and I stick by my claims that Manchester City could spend £11,500,000 a lot wiser...

Discuss.

That's what we enjoy, a little East Anglian rivalry :E

When's Norwich joining the big boy's mate, it's been a wee while since Norwich were fighting in there with the likes of Chris Sutton playing.

Remember when Norwich were in the UEFA cup not that long ago?

i'll tell u something, this isnt just a fan hoping for a good season but Norwich have a really good chance of going up, mark my words we have some top players here, Bellamy Mulryne , a top forma england under 21 player called Lee Marshall, a future england star called Darell Russell, and one of the best goalkeepers i have seen for ages in Andy Marshall, ok last season i said that we was going up but we got ALL our best players our for the season so we had to throw our young players in at the deep end.
if anyone fancys some easy money, Norwich to win Div 1, 33/1 !!!!

*sigh*

FFS - did you even look at the date I posted that first one? it was before the season started, when Man City were linked with Egiogu. I just revived it to show how 733t I am :E

Oh, and Wanchope only scored once on hi debut - I'm a Derby fan, and I remember that match well. FOr your information Sturrige and Ward got the other 2 in a 3-2 victory

I thank you :)

okeys backy22, ive only been to this forum the last week or so, but I must say ur decidedly rancid in your approach to other members of this forum.

So take your inane comments and general muppetness elsewhere, because I'm sure people dont like their opinions and their views slagged off everytime by you, just because you might not share their opinion.

Pixie Pete knows far more bout football than you do, judging by both your comments, and what with him being a season ticket holder at Premiership club and knowing him for some time now, you have no right to tell him he knows 'jack sh!t' bout football.

So shut it.

This is going to be the last time I mention this so please pay attention backy.

I'm not holding this against you in any manner but as you say you know a lot abou football, please respect the views of the other people who contribute to this forum and give some positive viewpoints rather than negative.

I'd rather see a civilised debate which you contribute a great deal of your football knowledge so threads can continue to keep us thinking than a thread which you slag someone off for having a viewpoint you disagree with.

I'll wipe the slate clean if you can do the same.

no problemo my friend?????

is city gonna pop back up next year?

Normandy

depends who they appoint as new manager, now Joe Royle's gone :)

lol just thought, and made me lol, it'd be funny if they appointed Alan Ball, or 'Mr Relegation' as he's otherwise known, and they got relegated again, back into the 2nd division :P

Gawd I'm an evil booger ;)

Seriously though, I think they need to appoint someone with lots of experience, and not do a Tranmere and appoint someone who has never managed before :( (Dave Watson)

That would be Kevin keegan then:

"Kevin Keegan ended his seven-month absence from football on Thursday when he was named the new manager of Manchester City.

Keegan will be unveiled as the new boss of the newly-relegated Maine Road club in succession to Joe Royle, who was sacked last week.

City see Keegan, who quit as England boss in October after October's World Cup defeat to Germany at Wembley, as the man to lead them back into the top flight.

Keegan has previously taken Newcastle and Fulham to promotion."

So, dunno. Might go back up. I shall watch with interest,

Seamus

I remember this being said about how long Keegan would stay at Fulham when England were looking for a successor:

No, I'm fully comitted to Fulham and have a 5 year contract to get Fulham into the Premiership. I intend to fulfil my part of the agreement

Kevin Keegan was then named coach of England about 2 weeks later.

Baring this in mind, Keegan has had experience in the top flight and I have to admit although he was unlucky not to win the Premiership with Newcastle, Keegan is an honest bloke and has the tactical knowledge to guide Man City back to the top flight and perhaps keep them there (unless another high-profile job appears :P). :)

Yeah, people seem to think that because a manager fails at international level, they are good for no-one. People are slagging off Keegan, in the same manner they criticised Hoddle before he returned to Southampton.

Good Luck Keegan :D
