View Full Version : What Mother Board should I get?
I'm thinking of upgrading my comp, I wanna get a good graphics card for starters, and most good graphics cards these days plug into an AGP slot, but my motherboard don't have an AGP slot. I got an AMD-K62 450 but I wanna upgrade to a pentium 3. So I gotta get a new Mother board, but I don't know what I should get, and would I need to buy anything else. I don't know much about upgrading motherboards, last time I tried on my old comp, smoke started spraying out and It didn't work after that. (i think i plugged one of them wires in the corner of the mobo in the wrong place).
or would it be a better Idea if I just upgraded to a mobo that takes a AMD-K62 and has a AGP slot? If you can get these!
thanks for any help

It would help if you told us what your budget is to spend on upgrading.
You should get rid of your K6 and mobo as they have problems with the newer graphics cards(Geforce hates them).
A P3 700 FCPGA and a Abit BX133 would be a good buy right about now.
:rolling:
yeah u can get amd boards with agp slots as i have 1 :E
is a scan terra mobo is ok is spose does the job,i got a k6-2/500 in atmo but as fragchild says if u got the cash u better gettin sommat faster maybe a duron perhaps !
as u will have noticed k6-2`s are beginning to struggle a little with latest games give it 6 mnths or so and u would have to upgrade again anyway so u may as well do it now,if i had the cash i would.
My budget - about £250 - £300 (for the mobo and processor)
I'll get a graphics card later on..

Duron or celly would be a good upgrade.
Check out http://www.overclockers.co.uk they are quite expensive but if you desperatly want a certain overclocked speed then they sell pretested chips.
