Review: The Blair Witch Project- one of the most controversial films to be made. The film delivers a same basis, plot as The last Broadcast. Except a little numerous differences, a crew of 3 go into a forest where they are holding an expeditory documentary on The legend of the "Blair Witch". The films camera angle view is that of a normal camera and thats what seperates this film from any other. This at first i was thinking was a psychological film but i may be wrong or right but this is a more of a supersticious film than any psychological film. The idea of The Blair Witch is really well done, but the name is kind of a downer. It's like this name was taken from The famous poltergeist story "The Bell Witch", they both seem familiar. Every Scene in this film may seem exciting at first-but is really actually boring. This film is well-made because of over £100 budget(may be wrong)or £1000(not sure)
this films acting is intensely well-done. At first when this film was released many people in America(i was at holiday there if you must know Orlando FL.)thought the film was actually real footage. But it isn't. People in cinemas cried near the ending but when i watched every scene the film was boring until half-way through. The ending scene has a mysterious feeling and an annoying feeling- you want to know what did kill them- a human or a witch. The film i cant give a good rating due to such a blasting-hype upon it.
I found it boring until the end. Those last 5 scenes were credible and were probably the only good decent parts. Most of the film was- camp, walking ,lost. Although the hype has so much potential the film did not and was porbably poor potential.
FILM: BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
RATING:15
OVERALL: SILVER 3/5- a worth watching film but lets your hype and hopes down. But contains some credible acting, great story line but could of been a better film. I prefer LB(last broadcast) more than this.

One point... What makes it "one of the most controversial film ever made"? :monster:
It spooked me for weeks, BTW.

I thought it was a good film!
and ur right it didnt get good till the 2nd half :(
I think its bloody excellent for a small budget film, and is so beliveable because of the way it was filmed!
Controversial!! Why?
Um... not playing Devil's Advocate but I do not agree at all with the general consensus on this film.
It is an extremely clever Student film which I'm sure would get them an 'A' at Uni but in no way does it deserve a mainstream audience or release. Its all hype.
To say the acting is good is ridiculous. There is no acting. There is no script, its 3 people saying whatever comes into their head. It isn't acting, it is however a good piece of improvisation, big difference. And as with all improv it suffers because it tends to ramble on alot without actually acheiving anything plotwise or actionwise.
Also there is no plot. not a major fault , no blockbuster has a plot. But a good blockbuster does have a tight script and good action sequences. If you have no plot you need something to interest the audience.
Blair Witch had hype, incredible hype, an amazing advertising campaign and the popcorn munchers were fooled for 90 mins mainly cos in their head when they were watching the hype machine was telling them it was good. A great emporers new clothes trick.
I know alot of people were on the edge of their seat and scared. I think the reason is that people who don't like horror movies went to see this and got their first taste of horror. Anyone who had watched alot of classic horror films I'm guessing would have balked at the amateurish attempts at horror (making you jump for gods sake , very cheap :). Go watch Evil Dead again and then come back and tell me Blair Witch is better :)
I want to balance this a little by saying this film is a great student film and would be the winner in any indie film festival and therefore would catapult the directors into stardom. The directors themselves are VERY talented and will go on to do great things. But this film should never have got where it did. The actors maybe talented but they showed none of that all they did was show that they did attend their classes on improvisation, and they improv very well.
It is no coincidence that the film was not as well received in UK as US. We weren't hyped as badly as the US and there are more popcorn munchers in the US to fool.
This movie goes to prove that with correct marketing any film can make it box office wise. I bet given better marketing The Avengers could have made money! hehe maybe not

I actually hadn't seen any advertising before seeing it, and came out of the cinema thinking it was crap.
Then I tried to get to sleep that night.....

Clipper does most of that have any releation to what ive written, except for controversial(sorry wrong word supposed to be scary)and no plot. The rest is like argueing with films marketing budgets, why don't you try creating a film
get your m8s go to a park and than when its done, market it.
Will that solve that investegation?:)

Personally I found BWP very disapointing. Considering the hype it got (people running out of screenings a la Excorcist) I thought it would be absolutely ground-breaking. The only ground-breaking thing about this is that it is so cheap and nasty, how the hell does it warrant a mainstream release? It wasn't scary AT ALL either.
:)
Ummm you posted a review of the film marinelv...
I have posted my views on the film. They are not necassarily rebuttals of what you have written just my opinion on the film.
I mentioned marketing because that is what has made the film a success not the content of the film itself which I have explained in detail in my previous post.
No i couldn't make that film given a video camera because I am a stage director and actor (amatuer) and have had no training in film making. I also can do improv but I don't like watching it because I think its weak, I also don't like Abigails Party (the Play) for the same reason.
I also make the point that the film makers are very talented but the film itself should have been a calling card to get them a job rather than the spectacle it has become. It is churlish to say "If you hate it so much you go and do it". 1) I don't want to. And 2) I am entitled to an opinion and a review even though I can;t do it :)
Just my opinion or maybe I should have started a new thread for my review rather than includingmy opinions on your thread :)
My post wasn't decrying your review I was just adding my review to it...
