Sorry, just had to say that I finally went out and got a nice DVD player :) Nipped into Our Price too, to try it out. :)
Buy one get one half price. So I got Hard Bolied and Ghost in the Shell. Yet to see Ghost in the Shell, but watching Hard Bolied for the first time was a laugh.

Also, to all u DVD owners, where's the best place to get DVD's?
This may sound daft, but a m8 of mine has done brilliantly out of Brittania. You know the score, he got some free discs when he joined and has to buy so many in a year.
But their stock is a bit low so they have delays sending them out. It would be a problem, but everytime he complains they send him a free DVD of his choice :rolling:! So far he has bought 3 DVD's and got 8 free! No BS :).

I also use 247 for most of mine, nice 3 day delivery.
Also use this one now and again. http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/dvdstore/start.asp
They usualy work out about £14 from there with no postage worldwide.
Which is nice.

I used to get loads of my discs from the US when i first got my DVD player modified 12 months ago, but these day R2 releases are coming thick and fast, and if you can't be bothered with ordering online then you can get some pretty good deals in the high street.
Both WHSmiths and Curry's are doing a 'buy one get one half price' and '2 for £30' which ain't bad atall.
Also if you have one near i would take a nose in MVC as they always have some good deals.
Another good way is to try before you buy like renting one from Blockbuster etc.

Thanks, sounds good to me.
Shame I don't have an MVC near me  but ya can't have everything, anyway pretty pleased with the DVD so far, Ghost in the Shell and Hard Bolied were quite good also rented Enemy of the State, which was ok too.

OK...Boba m8,first off exhale m8 you turning a funny colour.
I picked them up at a computer fair i go to every other week.As you may have guessed their not exactly "official" releases. They've been ripped off either the Chineese or Japaneese laser discs, not sure which as i don't speek the lingo.Good jobs though from what i've watched so far, video is a nice clean transfer with quality as good as an original DVD.The sound is Dolby Digital and THX mastered as are the original laser discs and has transfered well. The sound is crisp and clear with good surround effects allthough the seperation is not as good as most of the 5.1 discs i've got.The films presented in widescreen, the ratios always confuse me but it's the one with the widest bands.
Now for the bad news, they've been transfered with chineese subtitles on allthough they are on the black border and not on the picture so after about ten minutes you tend not to notice them. Also the lipsync on my copy of Empire Strikes Back is well out, this could be just a faulty disc i'll check with the guy next time i go.No extras either, but what can you expect.
I've not watched Star Wars for about ten years now and this one had a scene in i aint seen before. When they first go to the Falcon theres a bit with Jabba the Hut which is news to me,maybe you can tell me what version that is Boba.Should do cos your in the scne to m8 lol.
Price....cost me £15 each m8,not bad i suppose.
Think i've covered it all there,if i've not ask away.
....btw he does Phantom Menace to but had sold out today.

/me finally breathes out.
Nice, sounds good to me, shame it's £15 but still good. Plus the transfer sounds worth it too. I would hate to find out how much the actual DVD's would cost if they would be released..a lot of money.
That scene is just one of the added scenes in the "Special Edition" as well as the entrance to Mos Eiesly (With the ASP-7 droid) aswell as others, but you should have noticed that it's all cleaned up too.
Did the DVD include "the making of" at the start as I know the videos do, which explains the extra scenes before the film starts.
I find it hard you've kept away from Star wars for 10 years! :) You gotta be kidding right? Where were you when the Special Editions were released. :)

Dunno why i never bothered with the special additions Boba.
I guess you get to a certain age you lose interest, then you hit another certain age and you get it back again.
Now you mention it there was somthing i couldn't put my finger on when they were driving into Mos Eiesly.Like i said there are no extras at all on the discs not even scene selection. Is there an extra shot of a stormtrooper riding a big ...erm...thing,sorry about the technical term.
I'm ashamed to say i fell asleep towards the end so if you could point out any other differences to look out for i'd be gratefull.
Are there extra bits in the other films to?,could be a couple of days before i get to watch them.
I can't see George being able to charge much more than the standard 15 to 20 quid. Its probably more about when he finally stops sulking and pulls his finger out to do them.
If your player doesn't do R1 Boba id get it chipped or find out if theres a remote fix you'll save a lot of money in the long run.The discs i've got are R1 btw.
I got them around the Manchester area ,which i see from your profile is a bit far from you.I think the guy does mail order though so if you let me know i can ask next time i'm there m8.

What I don't get with Lucas is, he's got this boner for quality, right? When the Special Editions came out in the States he refused to let them be shown unless they reached his technical requirements.
So how come he prefers to release them on VHS (which is ****!!! - sorry, I tend to swear when I feel passionate about something  )over DVD?
And as for the excuse he's waiting for the format to take off, BOLLOCKS!! If something reaches the high streets on these shores rest assured it's taken off. :(

Apparently when DVD was born there was a rival format that i can't remember the name of.A little like vhs and betamax
when video first arrived.Lucas threw his backing and a considerable ammount of cash behind the rival and was most upset when it bombed. So he's spat the dummy and is using the not till it takes off excuse to withhold his best work.

Sorry, not to sure what this means exactly, sorry :).
Anyway, the whole Trilogy has breif extra scenes, as well as other added parts.
You noticed the shot of the Sandtrooper on a Dewback, which you actually get to see the Dewback move which is pretty cool.
Other scenes worth looking out for.
Jabba the Hutt in Docking Bay 94, Star Wars-whole new scene, with Declan Muholland (Jabba) being CG over. <--which uve seen.
Mos Eisley entrance, Star Wars new added scenes and other parts so you see more of the spaceport, notice the ASP-7 droid attacking the patrol droid.
Sarlacc scene on Tatooine, Return of the Jedi-added too. Sarlacc now has more life in it, inluding a beak thing.
Bespin, ESB, alot added to the entrance into Bespin, so you can see more of the wonderful cloud city.
Bespin, ESB, when Solo, Leia and Lando etc walk into trap, you see more of the moving city with larder lighter open windows.
Battle of Hoth, ESB, improvements to Snowspeeder cockpits
End scene, ROTJ, Ewok Celebration, a lot added, with vews from Courascant, like Monument Square and Bespin.
Jabbas Palace, ROTJ, incudes a Yazzum dueting with Sy snootles. A more atmosheric palace with a proper Rebo band.
There are others, but this is from the top of me head at the moment, but above all the whole Triolgy has been completly cleaned up and smartened as the original copies were deteroating.
Please add to this if ya want. Hope this makes sense mate..

Thanks for the info Boba, very helpfull.
I just finished watching the end of Star Wars(from where i nodded off last night)and ESB.And i must say i really enjoyed them,i think you forget how good they are when you aint seen them for 10 years :).
My favourite used to be ROTJ so i'm looking forward to seeing that again, think it'll be later in the week though now.Gonna have to make time to watch em back to back, should be cool.
What i meant about your player was if you've got a stand alone player(which i presume you have from this thread)then if you bought it on the high street then it's odds on its region locked to R2(Europe).Some players are able to access other regions ie.R1(USA) by certain combinations of button pushes on it's remote control or by using one of the third party 5 in 1 remote controls. If yours is not this type it would require a "mod chip" fitting to allow it to play any region.
The advantages of R1 are earlier release dates,up to six months sometimes, usualy better extras allthough R2 is getting closer on this, and cheaper if you order over the net from the US.You can usually get a price of about £14
on a new release preorder inc. postage.:shakin:
Hope thats a little clearer Boba,i'd try posting your make and model on the DVD forum see if anyone knows the hack for it.If you get no joy there are plenty of sites on the net with the info on,i'm sure some kind soul will point you in the right direction.

Thanks Bozzdude, glad u enjoyed Star Wars too, but to be honest no suprises right ;) At least uve seen them again and I see the force is strong in you once again. :)
I've never actually watched them back to back yet.. Just haven't found the time.. but should be a great experience. :)
Hmm I kinda getting what you mean now :D Mine was actually from an auction, and there was some company selling a group of them, but I'll find the manual and have a look later for the model and then it'll become clearer, but thanks a lot mate, I appreciate your help.

De De De...Deladda de de de duh....(20th Century Fox Fanfare, sorry)
Welcome to the joys of DVD Mr Fett!! :E
Boba.....this is a little suggestion but it works for me.
Speeder bike your way down to Blockbuster and check out the ex-rental section. All of the films are around a tenner.....that's earth money dude   (DON'T KNOW WHAT WATTO HAS THEM AT).......and they are guaranteed for a year. If they don't work.....which has never happened to me then a good excuse for an ass kicking rears it's head.
You can pick up some blindin new movies on the cheap and they will reserve any that come in for you. Which is nice!!

Heh heh, nice fanfare, nearlly as good as the real thing mate.
Sounds good to me, may just pop over there tomorrow, ya don't have to be a member to buy?? I know most of my family are but I just let them choose the videos :) But I'll have to join sooner or later.
A tenner is not too bad, is it but I know Watto has some correlian DVD's but they don't work on my machine and he offers no guarentee at all  Grrrrr, stupid Toydarian, plus he doesn't accept Republic Credits which means a high exchange rate. ;)
Thanks for the idea mate. :)
