Ok heres a little story for u all. i recently invested in home highway and the blokey came to install it last thursday, after him completing the task and me asking him many questions he left, the isdn cards (2 one for each computer in my house) came in the post the next day. i installed one card and went to plug it in.... but.... oh no! the new digital cable plug doesn't fit in the analogue sockets in the computer room, and the isdn box is too far away from both computers for the cable to reach directly (i had the thing put near to the main line box, which i was told by the engineer was a good idea, even though he knew the positions of both the computers in the house). This wouldn't be quite so annoying if it was my fault, however i had specifically asked the engineer if the plug sockets were a different size as i had suspected it and the engineer had quite blankly replied "no". Not feeling too despondant, i phone bt and ask them if they have the relevent accessories for me to change the phone sockets, but i am told, "you can't do that, you will have to get an engineer in to do it for you, which will fo course cost £148(!)" thats 2x £148 because i will need 2 extensions to reach each computer.i complained lots (u never told me this before.... the enginner never said that...... its your fault not mine etc) but didn't get much out of them, so, waht i want to know is:
is there any cheaper alternative/a way of doing it myself? the easiest way around it i can think of is to get a couple of very long digital cables and run them round the house under the carpet, will this work? and where can i get long lengths of the right cable as bt are reluctant to give me any.
any help would be much aprreciated.

I think you can use normal network cable with RJ45 connectors. Could be wrong though. :afro:
if u want the ISDN socket to be more than 1.8m away from where the current t'phone socket is then u have to pay extra. there again, its only 5 squid every 10m so BT will once again make money from a an unsuccpecting customer!
nb.- the price and arrangements i've quoted are for Kinston Communications services but i would expect them to b similar!

I'll try some network cable tonight and let you know if it works or not.
:afro:
I have just had Business Highway put in last Thursday, and reading from the booklet that arrived a few days before it say's, the box must be instaled within 25 metres of your existing BT line box and within 1.8 metres of a power point.
It also explains how to add extensions, how many, and how to set the switches on the box, and yes they are RJ45, and all extension wiring must have a type 2 socket (which incorporates terminating resistors) as the last socket.
In other words it's just as easy to put in extensions for ISDN as it is for your phone, it's just a case of finding where to get the kit from, try some of the PC suppliers,
please post if you have any luck !!!!

call bt and be nice and clear but not offencive(no matter how thick some of the receptionists are).
explain that the nte9(hh box)was fitted in the wrong place by the installing engineer.due to him missinforming you as to the possible locations for the nte9 then explain what u really want(the nte9 near at least 1 poota)or halfway between the 2.explain how you are not happy and u will not go away.get to speak to a supervisor get the names of the people u speak to and the call centre address and keep on moaning. you have paid to have service where u want it not where an engineer says u must have it.
would u buy a washing machine and let them fit it in your lounge?
as for extentions for isdn (not the analogue that allready exists)u can either run them of the ports at the front via cat5 cable with rj45 plugs on the end(easy way)or u can wire them in properly but its more work and more money as u have to buy sockets also the idc terminating tool.
but i personaly would go down the moaning at bt route first but remember no shouting if u do that they pass you over to the dead heads department for ranting idiots.where they tape your calls and laugh at at you on thier tea break.
Normal RJ46 Network cable will work!
ISDN cable uses only 4 pins but there are not many ISDN 'only' cabls anymore. Most just use standard RJ45 as its easier and cheaper.
Just make yourself a couple of lenghts of RJ45 cable to reach each PC. (You'll need a crimp tool if you havn't got one)
Also if you plan to use both PC's at the same time on the internet (i.e. Use a channel each of the ISDN) then I hope BT haven't supplied you with BT Speedway ISDN adapters as you might be very dissapointed! (i tried this and the BT Speedways dont comply to the standards properly unless my card was just a dodgy one?)
What TA did they supply you with?
But as for your cabling problem. Yeh just a couple of lengths of RJ45. Cable it into the skirting board or summin'
Or buy some wall blocks and some cable tidy?
If you have any problems, I'll try and help.
