View Full Version : RIP Alec Guinness
He was arguably the greatest British screen act ever. Was superb in The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Card, Dr Zhivago, Great Expectations, Kind Hearts of Coronets, The Ladykillers, The Lavender Hill Mob, Lawrence of Arabia, Little Dorrit, The Man in the White Suit, Oliver Twist, Star Wars, Tunes of Glory and many more. Its very sad news ;(, but at least with all his films being reshown we'll get a get more chances to see how good he was.
I'm gutted . My favourite actor of all time, no contest.
Absolutely irreplaceable. I only just finished reading his diarys last month.
If anyone doubts the amazing talent of the man, watch Kind Hearts and Coronets and prepare to be astounded.

It is a great loss indeed. I just read the news and it made me feel sorrowed. His was undeniably a great talent, one which had me watch movies simply cause his name was on the bill.
A great loss. Recently we have lost a great wealth of talent, it sometimes seems like the end of a generation of talent excluding of course Sir John Mills who is happily still with us.
I don't think we shall his like again.

This is the first I've heard of it actually, as I've just in woken up.
My thoughts go out to his friends and family.
"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power, it's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, and penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together"
Obi Wan (Sir Alec Guinness) introducing Luke Skywalker (and the rest of the world) to The Force.

This is the first ive heard about it, too.
Ill refrain from making any Star Wars quotes in his memory, he resented the role of Obi-Wan up until his death.
Since ev'ry man who lives is born to die,
And none can boast sincere felicity,
With equal mind, what happens, let us bear,
Nor joy nor grieve too much for things beyond our care.
Like pilgrims to the' appointed place we tend;
The world's an inn, and death the journeys end.
- John Dryden (1631 - 1700)
RIP Sir Alec Guinness

I didn't realise this! I'm shocked that he agreed to apear in 2 sequels if he resented the part of Obi-wan. Unfortunately, this will be the role that he will be remembered best for by the younger generation!
