View Full Version : Comedy Actors...Who is best????
Monkey Fool

I have to say that Adam Sandler and the "Jay and Silent Bob" charcters have to be some of the funniest screen actors at the moment!!! :E :E
Who is better...who is worse......
:shakin: :jigga: :twister: :jigga:
ADAM SANDLER!!!!!!!
F'ing ADAM SANDLER!!!!
(Clipper is led away by two nice nurses with his medication.....)
Ok back again that feels better :E
Seems to me Adam Sandler is another phrase that should be censored by these boards whenever it is used in the context of "comedy" :P
His "Comedy" acting is based on juvenile childish acts followed by mawkish self pity and is about as funny as performing an appendectomy on yourself with a rusty breadknife. :dead:
Ok here are some of my fave comic actors ( so wound up I'll probably miss a load)
John Cleese
Bill Murray
Any of the Python team
Steve Martin (80's)
Woody Allen (occassionally his rambling comes up with a gem of a one liner)
Ummm apologies for earlier overreaction need to take my stress pills more often.
Cheers

Oh man I think he's smart!! :E
Admittedly his humour is quite juvenile but at least he does not take himself seriously. I like the switch brain off humour which is a nice release from the action movies out there. I thought "The Wedding Singer" looked like a complete chick flick but it rocks!!
At least he ain't annoying like Mr Carey!!
 :monkee:
Jim Carey is fantastic mate. Admittedly he can be over the top, but anyone seen Man on The Moon or The Truman Show? The guy's a legend.
I didn;t mention Mr Carrey cos I was afraid it might result in pot/kettle blackness questioning :)
But Jim Carrey is one of My faves just because of The Truman Show. And the only reason he didnt get Oscar is cos Academy are too far up their own arses. And I feel he does slapstick humour about 100 times better than Mr Sandler. I love silly humour but Mr Sandler just irritates and annoys with his bloody nice guyy routine every 10 mins in a movie
(Clipper takes deep breath and wanders off again)

..hmmm what about Robin Williams..lol...just kidding ;) I'm actually trying to think of one now, but can't think of their name...hmm.....

Ok its time for me to stop posting threads cause I'm fed up of being different from everyone else on here!! :E
Loved the Truman Show and I'm sort of glad Carey did not get the old back slap from the academy. Its all BS anyway!
Is there anyone that likes SANDLER....there must be???
:monkee:
yeah i do, made me laugh me pants off in the waterboy
Sandler? Nah, my views are the same as Clippers I'm afraid. He's as funny as Norman Wisdom :dead:.
My favourite would probably be Peter Sellers.
But I might as well break the mould and mention The Marx Brothers, Chaplin, Alec Guiness, Stanley Holloway, Spike Milligan and Kenneth Williams.

There ain't no denying the quality and skill of the older school actor's were films allowed them to express their abilities to the full.
Unfortunately comedy films today are not comparable but we do have some actors trying to keep the genre alive. This must be difficult knowing it will not be a blockbuster and trying to get production backing etc.
At least two of us like him....nice one Guffrie. :E
Big Daddy is ace as well...if not mega cheesie in the court room scene!!

Best comedy actors? Hmmm..well, unfortunatley you have to go to the 80's to find proper 'comedy actors' rather than like today where you have actors 'doing comedy'
Any of the Pythons
Gene Wilder and Richard Prior
Steve Martin (films like The Jerk)
Eddie Murphy (comedian turns action hero)
Bill Murray
I think if I had to come up with a recent name it would have to be Mike Myers for Wayne's World 1 and 2 and Austin Powers 1 and 2. Not to mention the under-rated So I Married An Axe-Murderer.
:)

Good call Ostrich the Austin Powers movies are works of genius.
About the best recent one i've seen was Galaxy Quest,Tim Allen is a good comedy actor imo and Alan Rickman seems to stand out in whatever he turns his hand to.
I think these days there seems to be less good comedy actors and just some stand out comedy scripts.American Pie,East is East and The Full Monty are some that spring to mind.
Its a pity Holywood can't seem to turn out comedy with the same quality and consistency as The BBC.
Men Behaving Badly,The Fast Show,Only Fools and Horses,Open All Hours,Faulty Towers,Monty Python....the list just goes on and on.
BOZZDUDE:smokin::bandit:
Shut up mate - British sitcoms suck. Fawlty Towers is brilliant, but there was only 12 episodes and it was made over 20 years ago. Only Fools and Horses is ridiculously over-rated. The Fast Show isn't a sitcom, it's a sketch show that is occasionally funny, and more often than not entirely predictable.
You want funny, try watching Seinfeld, Larry Sanders or The Simpsons. Now they're funny. George Costanza rules!
Let the flame wars commence!
And oh yeah, when you said "the list goes on and on" what you meant was you couldn't think of any others. True. (or are you gonna start telling me how great "Some Mother's do 'ave 'em" is next? ROFL!
Errr, shouldn't we have a TV forum for this
But true, you can't compare the last 3 years of Hollywood with the last 30 years on the beeb.
The sitcoms don't stand up very well to Holy Grail, Annie Hall, M*A*S*H, Raising Arizona, Airplane!, Groundhog Day and Sleeper .

Slightly off topic, but I just have to point out a couple British sitcoms you seem to be forgetting:
Father Ted - Pure Genius.
League of Gentlemen - Strange and very funny.
Royle Family - Next generation sitcom.
Men Behaving Badly - The last decent example of this type of sitcom I reckon.
No cheesy American imports can compete.
We've gone for originality recently, as the tried and tested sitcoms have just been done to death.

League of Gentlemen is probably one of the most unfunniest things I've seen. :)

Look I do not love Boba or nuttin but I have to agree with him again!!! :fett:
:monkee:
Father Ted though....how could we forget that!!!
Have you people forgotten the great late John Candy?
he MADE any movie he appeared in, no matter how bad it was. The mans a comic genius!
Bill Murray
End of discussion i think
Will Smith ......eek no Im kidding :)
ummm I don't think you can beat Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson for the crackers that was Bottom , and to a lesser extent The Young ones .

John Candy's a good one!!!
Bill Murray can be cool as well!!!
[Ostrich]
14-08-2000, 12:46
Bill Murray is cool. This may seem harsh but it's kinda good fortune that James Belushi passed away otherwise Murray would never have been in Ghostbusters. Somehow I just can't imagine Belushi as Venkman....
:)
James Belushi is still in the land of the living, it was his brother John who died.
[Ostrich]
16-08-2000, 17:36
Hehe, I remember thinking John while typing James. Odd

Cheers M8.
I can get my head out of the sand now without the fear of public stoning and ridicule.....
I think most people on these forums tend to disagree though. :E
Eg: I love Ep1 (bar a few parts of the film)
I am a Michael Schumacher fan....
I don't like Bill Gates
I like PC's and Consoles
Most of my posts tend to get pretty negative responses :E
