The two most recommended budget buys (by users and magazine reviewers) are the Wharfdale (Tesco) and Mico (Unbeatable (http://www.unbeatable.co.uk)) players. Both are about £180 and have multi-region cracks.
The Mico has the edge in my view since it has a built in 5.1 decoder (you still need an amplifier and speakers), and a Macrovision disable facility.

Scan do a good one (allegedly) for about £180. plays MP3s too (multiregion, macrovision disabled so you can... back up DVDs to tape etc.)

are having a big clear out on Pioneer machines
£219 for a DV 525 ! Bargin!
LG do quite a good multi region machine, but dont know where you can get but its around the 200 mark.
I ended up after weeks of looking around, getting an LG3200 from Techtronic's multiregion - cost me aboot £195
Excellent player - only problem is that is comes in Silver.....:(
You could try a Proline DVD player @ £160 - which I got in my local Woolworths, there is a nice easy multiregion crack as well :E
Unfortunately it comes in Gold colour :(

I heard the Scan player had removed the macrovision disable feature. Pity. :{
Are there any external plug-in macrovision disablers available?
Well kenny the lg comes as multi region, if its the one im thinking about, so u dont need to activate it.
On my Samsung you have to put the player on standby and then press the 1 or 2 key for R1 or R2 on the remote.
