Lenghty Pauses and Black Lines. Help

I've just got my Sharp 760 player from Techtronics. Now, on some DVDs there is a black line that occasionaly shifts from right to left and on ALL DVDs there is a lenghty pause once at the end of a scene (random on all DVDs)

Anyone know what this is?

The pause is the layer change which you get (to different degrees) on all DVD players whilst the laser refocuses on the 2nd DVD layer. (unless its a flipper disc then you get a 30 second pause!)
