Well yesterday evening was my first time at the controls of a flying machine for 25 years, and what fun it was too.
Nice glider, the pilot did a loop before handing over, and let me fly it for 15 minutes including the landing. A tad heavy which isn't surprising, as anyone who has seen me slam a 109 onto the runway will know.
Great fun.

Perfect weather. A very gentle breeze, a few scattered distant clouds with just a touch of ground haze, the reservoirs and lakes gleaming as the evening sun shone off them.
All for £25, worth every penny.

sounds wonderful. <gets jealous too>
£25?i can't even afford that :(
Nice one JJ, gliding is a great experience, especially if you get the chance to ride some thermals and stay up for a bit. I've been a few times, each time with an aircraft tug for the pull up - the tug was an old AgCat, seriously dodgy......bit scary :)

That Tiger Warbird museum is brill Fu11, make sure you take the guided tour, the guy really knows his stuff and makes you feel really welcome as well!
Don't be put off that it looks like a hanger full of scrap...theres some multi-million dollar planes in there!
If you do go, ask him how the lightnings coming along, it was a pile of scrap when I went. :)

Considering the amount of straps I had on the session I had wasn't far off a bondage jaunt :)
Cooger, don't be put off. It's an enclosed cockpit, plenty of things to look at and do which helps take your mind off the fear. When I used to fly as a 16/17 yr old I was frequently scared, including the fear that the wind in the open cockpit would whip my glasses off and leave me blind at 900 ft up!
Dragonweedy, the flight was at Sibbertoft, a small place between Lutterworth and Market Harborough (Leicestershire). I used to fly at Tern Hill (in Shropshire). A long coach journey every Sunday morning, then hitching the last 10 miles, and hitching the whole way back to Stafford in the evening because the last bus was about 2pm. I look back and am amazed I stuck it out long enough to go solo, must have had more determination than I credit myself with!
That used to be with a winch launch, although some people opted for the cheaper winch option last night. You don't get as high, but you don't half get there quickly.
yeah i suppose ur rght JJ m8 .. ialso have that fear when im doing the obstacle courses at the army and im ontop of the high! things and wind comes i **** myself becuas ei think itll blow me off....ill probably fait up at that altitude :)
one day i hope to get the courage to say " right im going up in one of those and no one is stopping me" that day will be one toremember for teh rest of my life......
i often look at planes and imagine what i could be doing if i was flying it... :)

You lucky beggar JJ. I never got around to it this year (gliding, that is, not bondage!) but I have to agree that if you want to get up to 1000ft quickly the winch is the way to go.
Experience the fun of an aircraft carrier catapult launch on the end of a few thousand feet of steel cable tied to a cement truck and go from horizontal to vertical in about two seconds. Thank God for those straps and buckles, i say :E
I had that bloody song going through my head the _ENTIRE_FRICKIN_DAY_ yesterday.
Bah.

What song's that then? I don't recall "Thank God for those straps and buckles" although I imagine the video would make entertaining viewing.
