I ask a question, first person to answer it right gets to ask the next and so on. Like in the Film Forum, but might be more interesting.
The car "ELENOR" in "Gone in Sixtey Seconds" is what?
OO saw that film, pretty good :)
You expect me to remember one car out of 50?
I just guess then... was it the lamborgini (sp?!) that they had to wait for the owners to have abit of hows ya father before they could nick it?
PhoeChiMalkieGal
05-09-2000, 15:36
Nope. *ggls* hey if i can remember (only cos I fell in love with the "unicorn") im sure someone else can, if no one has got it by the time i log on tommorow ill give the answer and pose another question.
Its that car at the end, the one his brother 'buys' for him, but i can't remember the car, i want to say Ford mustang a 1964 ford mustang ... but thats proberly wrong.
PhoeChiMalkieGal
05-09-2000, 15:40

PhoeChiMalkieGal
05-09-2000, 15:48

11-09-2000, 22:07
Some snippets of trivia regarding The Matrix
Inside the Nebuchadnezzar there is a brief shot of a plaque with the ship's name, above which it says "Mark 3 no. 11." The Biblical verse Mark 3:11 is, "And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out saying, `You are the Son of God.'"
Nebuchadnezzar was a biblical Babylonian king who was instructed by God in dreams to destroy the inhabitants of Jerusalem because they worshipped false prophets.
Check out the room numbers for Trinity and Neo. When the cops bust in on Trinity in the opening scene the number is 303 ("trinity," 3) and since Neo is The One the number of his apartment is 101.

Personally i wouldn't put too much faith in Top Guns technical 'correctness'. Just watching it last night, i saw several glaring errors, and i was half asleep!
However not as bad as a Tom Clancy book based on HMS Norfolk, a type 23 like i'm on. Whilst i was reading it, i got out a pen, corrected it, and sent it back to him!!!

Top Gun...lol.....factual correctness...lol....nothing was right with the entire film...military correctness was a joke
Factual errors: Numerous violations of standard Navy operating procedures.
Factual errors: Numerous errors of fact regarding Navy equipment and their capabilities.
Continuity: Stinger's ribbons on his chest.
Continuity: The armament of the F-14s change in midair.
Factual errors: It is impossible to fly two aircraft inverted so closely together.
Continuity: The distance between the aircraft after Goose takes the picture.
Continuity: The squadron markings on both Iceman and Maverick's Tomcats change a few times. Both of the original markings are not real Tomcats squadron markings.
Continuity: Maverick's watch before and after the training flight.
Continuity: Merlin says from the back seat "we're running low on gas," and then taps the fuel gauge in the front seat.
Factual errors: The main rear cockpit display in an F14 is a Tactical Information Display, not a PPI scope as indicated.
Continuity: Maverick's tailhook retracts too quickly when he decides to rescue Cougar. Additionally, is is subsequently visible in a later shot.
Continuity: Charlie sits down on the counter in the ladies room without ever having stood up.
Continuity: In the ladies room scene Charlie loses the lipstick she was holding.
Continuity: Charlie gains her folder when exits the ladies room.
Continuity: Iceman suddenly appears next to Wolfman in the locker.
Continuity: Maverick's hair during the elevator scene.
Continuity: Numerous positional inconsistencies during the volleyball game.
Errors in geography: The Top Gun training area is over a Californian desert, over 300 miles from the coast. When Maverick enters the flat spin, it is reported that he is "heading out to sea."
Factual errors: Ejection seats are built to be higher than the helmets of the crew. Goose's head would not have hit the canopy when his seat went off the rail. The top of the seat would have absorbed/deflected the force of impact and Goose would float safely to the ground.
Factual errors: All Navy pilots wear NOMEX flight gloves.
Continuity: Charlie is wearing a grey skirt in the classroom which turns black when she approaches Maverick on the motorbike.
Continuity: Amount of ice in Maverick's glass in the airport bar.
Continuity: Viper's sunglasses after Maverick's first landing after the accident.
Factual errors: When Maverick is launched to help Iceman, he is more than 110 miles from him. Claiming he'll be there in 30 seconds, he would have to travel at 13,200mph (Mach 18). His F-14's top speed would be Mach 2.
Continuity: Supposedly the final dogfight happens over water, yet a mountain is visible in the corner of one shot.
Continuity: Maverick fires the same missile from the same wing station at least three times.
Continuity: The lettering on the front of Sundown's helmet disappears once he and Maverick are back on the ground after their first flight together.
Factual errors: Navy pilots fly with sun visors down.
Revealing mistakes: The signal that Maverick is given before he takes off for the final fight scene is not the launch signal, but rather the "remove power" signal. This signal is given early in F-14 launch procedures, not right before launch.
Continuity: Maverick's sunglasses are (not) on when Slider picks him up after they return to the carrier.
Factual errors: When Hollywood's plane is hit in the final fight, he ejects. However, the person that ejected is clearly a skydiver, as there is no chair, and "Hollywood" throws open his parachute. His parachute would automatically open.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: "Ladies Room" sign on the window of the toilets isn't inverted when Maverick goes inside. That's because we're looking in a mirror.
Revealing mistakes: In the bar scene when Goose is playing "Great Balls of Fire," the movement of his hands does not match the music.
Factual errors: There is no Mig 28. Soviet fighter planes were designated by odd numbers. Even numbers were reserved for ground attack craft. The "Migs" shown are F5 Tiger II's.
Continuity: Position of the wine bottle at Charlie's place.
Continuity: In the first "hop" the "hard deck" is 10,000 feet. At the very begining of the hop, they are mere feet over the desert floor. Throughout this time, dogfights abound between the aircraft, when all the time they are obviously well below the hard deck of 10,000 feet. As the fight continues, Jester decides to dive straight down, and Goose says, "He's going for the hard deck!" After Jester gets "killed," he tells them to, "Get [their] butts above the hard deck and return to base." (Another question: Why do they have to go back up above 10,000 feet if the dogfight is over and they are returning to base and going to land anyway?)
Continuity: During Maverick's first training dogfight with Jester, Goose tells Maverick that he (Jester) is going ballistic. In the sequence following where Maverick goes vertical in pursuit of Jester, there are four or five frames where the Tomcat is actually ahead of Jester's A-4 Skyhawk.
Factual errors: When Maverick is flying toward Iceman, he says he is flying at supersonic. However, later his plane is shown with the wings forward. At high speed, F-14 should have the wing toward the tail and usually additional small wings come out of the side of the mid-section.

Hmmm, knowing people, I'm inclined to agree with you on that point. To get back to the subject of the whole post though, let me ask a rather simple question. On which Buster Keaton movie was last years release of the horrible "the Bachelor" movie based?
OO they missed a biggy :)
In the brief on the Enterprise, the pilots were told the Mig 28's were armed with the exocet anti ship missile, and they can be fired 100miles away.
Now the Russians do not use the Exocet, the French and a few smaller countrys do. The range of the MM38 exocet, is 42 miles, and the MM40 is closer to 50. Versions of the ASM (air to surface missile) exocet, reach ranges closer to 60nm.
The Russians would have proberly been armed with the Kettle or Sunburn ASM, but i have never heard of a Mig 28, so i don't know if it could be fired, as the missiles are rather large...
[QWS] Baby Bear
18-09-2000, 18:06
There never has or never will be mig-28's, all MiG's are labelled with an odd number....mig 25 , 27, 29 etc but nope no mig 28's.
Oh yeah The bachelor was based on the 1925 film Seven Chances. And it was also a remake of the 1904 film Personal.

Toshiro Mifune was the actor, Akira Kurosawa the director and Yojimbo the first one on which For a fistful of dollars was based. Sanjuro was the second. You're looking at a fan here (just bought and viewed Ran today and thank the lord for specialist video stores where you can get movies like that).
I think I read somewhere that Clint Eastwood, for his movies, and also for those spaghetti westerns, seriously studied Toshiro Mifunes acting.
BTW with the Mig numbering system, thats not entirely correct :)
Flicking through a little ole book i have here, the Mig 28 was a plane suggested to the Russian Airforce, by a company other then Mikoyan-Gurevich (and yes, that is spelt right! Don't even think about it Arby...) who have suplied all the other migs.
MG Is the politicaly backed company, the other company, the name escapes me, was by the other company, the one the military backed. As always the politicians win.
There have been a protoype mig 24, 26, 28 and currently a mig 30. However none of them saw past the protype stage, because the Government back MG which made it worth their while :)
Looks like the same system works in Russia as it does here :)

Roast?:I bow to your superior knowledge Roast, I was led to beileve that the numbering system for mig aircraft is NATO based and not Russian, same with the naming system i.e. fishbed, flogger, foxbat, fulcrum etc etc. Was the other company Sukhoi ? I am extremely impressed with the performance of the SU - 27, performing some pretty good stuff at Plymouth.
Silent.Partner: That was damn fine matey, damn excellent :) just what I was looking for. oh Yes!!!! your go!!
Get up!!
The way the Russians number their hardware is abit complicated :)
They call everything a project number, eg
project 118 and then a class title, eg bars.
So A bars class submaine would be a project 118:- Bars.
Then NATO comes along, and calls it project 118B (god knows why) and insteed of calling it Bars, they call it Akula.
So now, in our eyes, its not a 118 Bars class, its a 118B Akula class
The plane system is slightly differerent though...
Prototypes are giving a project number, which is different then the final version (if it ever makes it that far) They also come up with a name eg Mig 21bis, then NATO comes along, changes everything, calls it a Fishbed, a mig 21 fishbed, and thats how you get your end result.
Although fun and games apear when NATO only calls it a Fishbed, or a Fulcrum, but none NATO countrys have their own name for it, eg Sniper!
The system is a complete shambles, I say we just go by what the Russians call them!

Hmmm, another question...I'll do an easy one again. What is the nickname (or callsign) of Mel Gibson in the movie Mad Max, painted underneath the sidewindow of his police car?

Hehehe, I reserve the hard ones for bad days *grin*. Seriously though, I thought it was an easy question, as you only have to have seen the movie once to have known it. Erm, either that or I remember too many details than is entirely natural, but the jury is still in debate on that point. If it turns out to be too exotic, just say it and I'll ask another one.
