View Full Version : Awaiting Gamestate
Each time i try to play Q3 I get as far as "Awaiting Gamestate" and then it just hangs. It's not my ISP as this happens with BT Internet, WP Direct and FreeServe. The modem is Diamond Pro 56e and works ok elsewhere. Latest drivers, all seems well at this end. Any clues?
initially, i would say to make sure u have the latest point release for quake3, and that it installed to the correct directory as if u have not installed quake3 to the default directory, u will have to point it at where u have quake 3.
please post back if this isnt the case :)

q3, 1.16 and 1.17 were all installed automatically by instal wizard.
q3 is in programs. Is it worth putting 1.16 and 1.17 back in again manually? If so, where? (baseq3?)
if you let q3 go to the default install path, then every thing should have installed fine....
just to check, start q3 on its own, at the main menu, press ` (the key next to the number 1 on the main keyboard area) to bring down the console. in the bottom right of this it should say q3 1.17.
if it does, then it should have installed ok....

q3 says 1.17 in the console now, yeah?
hmm....
is it just the wireplay servers that give this problem? or does it happen on all q3 servers when u try to join?
also, check in the setup menu that the cd key has been entered correctly..

CD key is ok
it happens on all servers, not just WP
just that i normally use wp
not so many idiots who forget that q3 is just a game
well, i'm stumped now, so i'm askin around for ya.

sorry its been a while, but no great news i'm afraid....
the only thing we've been able to come up with so far is if you are trying to connect to a server that requires a specific mod (e.g rocket arena) and you dont have the mod installed.
if i get anything else, it will appear here, do you have any firewalls or suchlike that could be interfering with it? just a thought....

uninstalled virus checker in case it was that
only tried to get on ffa or clan servers or 1v1, ra went when i started again
modem can be slow in receiving info sometimes, could it be that?
any tweaks u can suggest? (already set up as per lagless)

Ok.... so it doesn't matter which ISP....it doesn't matter which service or multiplayer system you connect to (or try to :P) still nothing happens?
I assume it runs OK single player? Is you net connection OK otherwise (surfing, emails etc)? It looks like the problem is coming from your end of things as it's unlikely everywhere you connect to has something wrong with it :E
Try posting in the modems forum, you might find someone has come across this b4. Give us a shout if you get stuck.
I had the same probs as u a while back m8, same modem too! I found that uninstalling the drivers under control panel and reinstalling tose found on the driver CD worked fine... that is until I had to re-format me ruddy machine! But tis all fine now so thar ye go!

when the problem first came up i tried everything, including formatting the hard drive and starting again.
tried the driver suggestion, no luck.
I will see if i can find my old internal modem and try that
sounds like a software conflict on my machine
just thouht I would let u know that I finally resolved it (not too sure what it was that did it, but scandisk found a couple of errors and after that it worked - in a fashion)
connection is crap :angry: so I've posted for some help on the modem forum. :)

get 1.25 for q3 so when i do get my modem sorted i can play
