View Full Version : Problem running Scandisk and Defrag....
Hi,
I know I could ask this in irc but I don't care:P
I'm having problems running scandisk and the defrag programs...everytime I run them, they crash. It's done this all the time i've had this PC so I couldn't tell you what i've installed recently, is there a way to reinstall these programs or something?

You can reinstall them from the system tools menu on your windows disk.......(Scandisk + Defrag that is..)
Have you got any wierd partitions on you drive that may be screwing it all up ?????

I don't have a win98 disc 'cause it's meh pute at work and IT are scary...
Don't have any weird partitions, only got one small 5GB HDD right now :(

Hey man, if ya wanna re-install them again to see if that helps, then you will have to get the disk....
Perhaps a covert to IT is needed...

Try running scandisk in dos (and restart your PC in dos, do not open a dos window on your desktop), as for defrag try running it from your windows startup disk, if you dont have one you can make on in add/remove programs.
When you run defrag make sure you have closed down all
programs running in the background.
(ctrl alt del then highlight and end task everything except
explorer and systray).

I have seen this before and the cause of it was the Anti-Virus software being active at the time.
Disable the AV software either within the program or from the Task manager for the duration of the Scan/Defrag.
Very common with McAffee group of AV packages.
I seriously do not believe it.
