View Full Version : Any forum tecchies - advice pleeez...
Right, tis me birfday in a couple of weeks and I'm prolly gonna get cash from b/f, parents etc and buy a digital camera.
Thing is - I dunno what I'm looking for, how much I need to spend etc, so if anyone knows about this stuff some pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Otherwise we can just discuss the pro's/con's of a digital camera rather than a normal one :E

Well I certainly am not technical but a couple of months back I did look at some lab tests on quite a number of cameras - and I must admit some of them were of very poor quality. Have a look round the comp mags. I think when I was looking the cameras with the best results started around £250 upwards or it could have been £350 - not sure now. Use the net to see test results :)

There's a collection of reviews at

hth
First, know which camera or cameras you want, and secondly pop along to Makro, and your get it at half the price.
I went along today, and got a JVC stero for £119, now this is an amazing price, for a stero Comet or Currys would try and are selling for £250 :E
Thanks all.
My problem is I don't know enough about digi cameras to know what's a good deal. I've decided that I'll spend around £250 so that I get a decent one, but I'll take a look around the sites you guys have mentioned for some reseach.
Thanks :)
I wouldn't think you can get a 'decent' digi camera for less than 400 notes...you can get them for 150 but I'd rathehr have a nice SLR for that price...
better depth of field and image quality...apart from with a digi camera you can you alsorts of :naughty: images you wouldn't take to Boots to get developed.
Thing is I already have a decent Olympus film camera, but I'd really like a digi camera for my website etc (Plus the fact I can't think of anything else I want for my birthday). I can't go higher than £250 cos that's already more than I'll get in birthday money and although I've seen them for more and less than that I want one that does the job, but isn't full of fangled gadgets, but does it's job well. :)

/me waves to dnx
/me waves to Louhi
It's my berfday soon as well (not the 26th!)
I guess we all had parents that got "friendly" at their Xmas parties :)
Unless you get a camera with more than a 2 million pixel resolution, the quality of the pics will be worse than a bog standard SLR.
Dnx, I know you are keen to get a digital camera, but why not use your existing camera and just get the photo lab to develop the pictures on to CD Rom instead. Most photo labs do this nowadays and the cost has come down considerably.

As for the camera thing - I'm at a loss now. I can't think of anything else I want and I can see I'm gonna have to spend more than I can afford to get something decent - although I'm still thinking about the Fuji MX 1400.
As for the birfday thang - thanks everyone :)
I'll be at work on the day cos Steve don't wanna take the day off  So - mebbe we can have a forum party again (I missed the last one).
Right, nuff rambling for now. I'm off to sit in the garden and await the arrival of our friends :)

Um.... must have been reading the wrong mag doh! i'll go and check again but i am sure i saw something going on about digi cameras
See if Bungles place of work do em - he is a great salesman :)
I want a good camera not a good salesman!! :)
Anyways, I've done quite a bit of research since I posted this topic - I'm still looking at the Fuji MX1400 as recommended by Indigo. Cheapest I've found that so far is £230 from some website - just depends on if I trust the website enough to order it from there. No luck finding out where your company bought it then Indigo?
So Louhi, what ya doin to celebrate your birthday??
