DBZ coulda been a contender if theyed kept the originla voice actors from season 1 and not cut it to buggery.
still it is enjoyable, but its no where near the same elague as tenchi muyo which is by far the best anime series ported to english ive seen (coupled with the best voice acting)
luckaly thought, it looks like CN have ported Toonami from america which means in a few month we should be seeing a dedicated 2-3 hour anime slot with DBZ Tenchi, Gundam wing, eppisodes of sailor moon (gets good, much better than the crap early series they show on fox kids) reboot (not anime but still good cartoon) and probably batman beyond (of the future)
one thing i am very glad of though is boomerang, theyve ported all the classic (utter crap ****e boring poo) and put it all on one channel allowing the main one to concentrate on newer things.

I certainly hope they carry on the Toonami bit, but knowing our luck, we'll get something like The Flintstones instead.
Does anyone else think that what FUNimation have done to Bulma is evil? I mean, with that voice, and those lines, akkk, and I would have thought that FUNi, with all its overzealous censoring, would have tried to do away with stereotypes a bit.

Johnny Bravo suprised me - it's actually quite good. I like it, but only get terrestrial TV ;(
well, i was in the US for a month and toonami on cartoon network there is excellent. yeah, the english translation of DBZ was pissing off but it's still a very enjoyable anime.
oh by the way, MrCarrot...i dont know if you've seen gundam wing...but it beats tenchi muyo as the best translated anime to english by quite a bit. the voice actors are perfect and true to the whole gundam universe (the gundam cartoons have been around since 1979, gundam wing is the latest one from 1995 i think) has a storyline which rivals and in places beats robotech!!!! plus the action scenes and the mechs are the best i've ever seen in anime!!

i first saw it on cartoon network in india about 3and half eyars ago!! i absolutely loved it..
and yeah the power puff girls are absolutely glorious in their p1ss-take of anime/manga!!
but the best cartoon network produced cartoon to date is dexter's laboratory!!

Going back to DBZ tho, theres a good site that details all the stuff that was cut/censored from the Jap original, and there are some truly bizarre cuts in there, like Gohan imagining an apple tree in one of the early episodes. The author also points out the horrendous mistakes made by the english script writers, and how the re-writes leave out vital information about the characters personalities and feelings. It makes for interesting reading, check it out here:

thanks for that geist...after that absolutely horrible horrible translation the american guys did at toonami, i can see what the second phase of goku's life is really like!!
i'm surprised though with their botched up DBZ job!! with gundam wing thay've done an excellent job..no other action anime has come across better in terms of storyline, character design, character develpoment (!!!!) than this one in english, you'll watch this more for it's charcters than it's action, i've only felt that in one other anime which was called Ninja Robots!!..and i've been seeing anime cartoons for 10 years now, although i have yet to get any manga whatsoever...

On another note, just bought 'FIst of the North Star' yesterday. Surely the most OTT violent Manga produced? I member watching it ages ago when i was bout 16, but i'd forgotten how facking mental it was. The ending made me crack up too......the bad guy sees a flower and does a complete 360 U-turn of character and just baggers off......FIGHT TO THE DEATH DAM IT YA PILE OF CELLULAR PAINT AND SHORT-CUTS!!!

Weve got another 12 episodes before Freeza finally "kicks it", Goku wil be turning Super Saiyan on Wedne...

I'm gonna be in uni tho, so my damn VCR better work or someones going to be throwing a wobbly!
I've got FOTNS on vid from ages ago, but I still dont get the ending, I mean, Band is right, they should keep fighting and squirting bodily fluids everywhere until one of them runs dry. "Hes going to need a lot of care" says Raul, after they both get beaten to a pulp and loose enough blood to supply the NHS for a month. Then they both shuffle away, Ken goes in search of spice and I turn it off. Have to admit, never have I seen so much entrails, especially when that massive fella turns into metal, and munches on the soldiers.

Does no-one find the new episodes a little bit tedious? frieza vs goku - how long can it last? Having said that, I've only started watching from when the new series came on a few weeks ago. But will the Spirit Palm/Bomb(?) attack be enough? I bloomin hope so as its beginning to piss me off :)
