I the last few years I've been going to the movies a lot and although I've seen some absolute crap films some of them, I think will be all time classics in the coming years.
I enjoyed stuff like the Matrix and what have you but my favourites have to be things like
Gladiator, American Beauty, Lock-Stock and now Snatch,
anyone got any instant classic from recent cinema experiences?

Last film I went to go see was Gone in Sixtey Seconds. Before that X-Men. Before that....uhmmm...Mission Impossible 2. Im looking forward to seeing Scarry Movie Friday - note to self: Check times. - But one thats left me wanting to see it again....

I liked Blair Witch, and wouldn't mind seeing Blair Witch 2, also ive been told my my source in America that there is a new Highlander film coming out. Get back on track....before break time is over....

None really...I just like them, only film i went to see more than once at the cinema was Batman Forever, Heat, Island of Dr. Moreau cos I'm a Val Kilmer Freek.

Dogma a Kevin Smith classic!!!

If your going to take the piss out of organised religion do it like that its a clever film and if you can get on the same wavelength as Kevin then you just laugh for the whole film!!!

I saw it at the flicks and on a vid but some gags I didn't catch when I was at the movies so it is well worth a rent!!!

bah, I heard M:I-2 was cack...
my g'f is gonna drag me to watch it 'cos she wants to drool over Tom Cruise...Bah. the short arsed smug little man.
I heard that it was full of continuity errors and bad scripting...I didn't mean action movies which afford a two hours distraction. I meant real films...like the great cinematic experiences...stirring soundtracks, clever cinematography and involving characters. I mean I like the x-men but it's not exactly a modern classic is it??

as for blair-witch? I found it really boring and it made my eyes ache. Those three deserved to be in that situation, they had no leadership, no equipment, no clue and no camera skills..(argh, my aching eyes!) and the only time i was interested was near the end when that lass did her monologue...that was good. Then the ending..well....it was okay...the theory was that he was standing in the corner, awaiting his death whilst the girl was going to be killed...
The alternate theory was that he was having a pee and she tripped and dropped the camera.
Blair witch wasn't a terrible movie for me, quite clever in it's own way, but over hyped, badly portrayed and too dull.

nah blair witch was good cos u used ur imaginationas there was no ghostie or monster to see....the sequil is
made by mainstream dimension so they will give some special fx to it

I disagree
there was nothing to be particularly afraid off.
a noise or two, and some warbling...
They ran away and Never even turned around to look!!!
and who in America goes into the wilderness without a gun?
Foolish people, I had no sympathy for them...
the only way it was explained was by a witch using supernatural powers, but they mixed that with something about a serial killer and never actually proved anything...
was actually scarier afterwards discussing it...was never made to feel shocked or afraid actually watching it.

its the psychalogical value, you dont have music and sfx when reading a good horror novel now do you, your imagination does everything, as with the film

true phoe, but there was nothing to be afraid of in that movie for me, it was all so intangible.
Yeah some weird stuff happened with the teeth and everything but there was no actual being to be scared by. I the books there is something nasty. I don't read horror books but my mate loved Stephen King...the books made him jump!!

recently i have seen the perfect storm, mi 2, high fidelity and snatch

mi 2 was cack and thats enough of that

perfect storm was good- better than the average blockbuster with a story and action

snatch was entertaining and im sure itll do well but its just so similar to lock stock that i dont think it will be a classic

high fidelity is the only one that i will definitely buy on its dvd release- good soundtrack, funny, top 5 lists and john cusack it was great

apart from that other recent faves of mine are american beauty, man on the moon and bringing out the dead

The best two films ever IMO are

1.Apocalypse Now.
2.Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas.

I find that loads fo films especially American ones seem to stick to a populist formula. I.E Big star, Big breasted female lead, plot as skimpy as the female leads clothes, Steve Buscimi as a madman, Al Pacino as a gangster etc etc.

Films seem to be dumbdowned a lot recently.

yeah they are 2 great films

i myself would choose taxi driver and one flew over the cuckoos nest as my top2

as for your comments on steve buscemi and al pacino tut tut tut

steve buscemi is a wicked actor and yes he often plays mad but he doesnt really appear in mainstream-mainstream more alt-mainstream such as king of new york and reservoir dogs

yeah on pacino has played gangsters in godfathers, donnie brasco, carlitos way and scarface but he is in no way typecast
he has played cop, blind man, homosexual bankrobber, american football coach, the devil, chef, mayor and tv producer

i would also like to point out that your two favourite films are american and imo america has produced the best cinema ever- along with some of the worst

Shanghai noon, Rush Hour etc.

Jackie chan films always bring a smile to my face, especially when Chan performs obseenly silly and dangerous stunts like jumping between two skyscrapers.

The fast paced action is cool, and the exadurated fighting moves.

Cool

I really liked

Matrix

Starship troopers

Aliens :)

Crimson tide (although its naval correctness is bollox, my dog could have been more accurate)

Hunt for red october (slightly more realistic :) )

I'm also a fan of the bonds, and any film, well err most films with Arnie in :)

And guess what, Top gun is a classic.

I also found Galaxy quest to be very funny, funnyiest film i've seen in a long time.

Dogma is my fave
Meet Joe Black
Matrix
X men - phwoar at Wolverine :)
Chicken Run

High F|idelity depressed me so much - DONT go to see it if going through a break up!!

Blair Witch bored me to tears - what imagination did u need? I WANTED them to get ripped apart by a great big grizzly bear - just to shut them up and add a bit of flavour to it.

Classics - Ferris Buellers Day out :E
Scent of a woman
Rocky Horror show

oen film I watched at the cinema a while ago was Clockwork Orange. Went to see it with my g'f who had researched it all for her theatre design course...
BAH, over hyped poo.. I mean in it's day it might have been ground breaking but now? in 2000? it's all been done since/before and better.
nothing was really said that's new to me..I mean to compare it with something of the same time..1984 was a better movie that actually said something substantial...

i saw high fidelity....it was ok, but i aggree with louhi.

umm, i rented american beauty out and it's one of the best films i've ever seen.

The matrix - best action film ever. Tho face off was good, but a bit to unbelieveable. They are both like some of the best marksmen in the world, they missed so many times, they if that was real, one of em would be dead after about thEM third shootout :) blade was also good (compared to most recent action films)

Mission impossable 2 was ****e. But an improvement on the first one.....now that film was complete tarts.

I thought blair witch was good. Made me think a lot about how although there are no real monsters in the world, there are people so ****ed up, that they are worse.

And aliens is the best of the 4 aliens films :)

And shallow grave is one of my favourate horror films, cause it's aboyut real people, and it rearly could happen. It is rearly quite tense (if you watching it in the dark and not sure the front door it locked  ). ANd has some good ideas in it :)

yeah, snell, aliens is great but i think that the matrix was geared too much in places towards the special effects. all those slow-pan moments are impressive at first, but seem strained after the first time. the mass shoot-out with the security guards was cool though, but no blood :(
