View Full Version : ABIT Memory woes .....

I've just pulled out my 2 x 64mb PC100 sticks and put in a new PC133 128mb DIMM. Upon start-up, the BIOS reads that there is 128mb and it registers that it is in the slot.

However, before I get into Windows, it stops with :

Windows Protection Error. You must restart your computer.

I've tried moving the DIMM into different slots etc but get the same error. I'm running this kit :

ABIT KT7 RAID
Duron 650
Original BIOS
GeForce2 32mb
IBM GXP HDD

Are there any changes I need to make in the BIOS to get this memory working ? Please help if you can!

Many Thanks

my socket a mobo allows me to set the memory clock, so u would put 133mhz
and the cas latency, which would be either 2 or 3

Reset your memory settings, and increase them one at a time until you find the best one.

Try the "Fail Safe Defaults" option on the right hand side of the Bios screen.....

Piglet out.....

Thanks guys.

Nothing worked so I sent the RAM back to Dabs on Monday and received a new stick yesterday. This works beautifully and so the original stick must have been a duffer.

Cheers for the advice.
