I when playing most of my games my pc will dump me back to my desktop at ramdom which can be must annoying. I have no idea whats causing i try shutting down all the background apps and it doesn't really do anything. I have got the lastest updates for my sound card etc... Any ideas
My system spec is
AMD K6 3-450
128MB RAM
Voodoo 3 2000
Creative Sound Blaster Live 1024
Creative Modem Blaster
Soyo Motherboard

that sounds very much like a driver problem
if yuor v3 is an agp version make sure u have your mobo's agp driver installed
r u running beta or retail v3 drivers and what date are they ?
the voodoo3's are known for heat problems so try runnig your case with the lid off to see if u may need an extra fan in there or not

Its the pci version.
Driver Version 4.12.01.1225 Date 1.7.2000 It only affected games like Homeworld but its now started on Half Life

I had a similar problem in GP3,and that turned out to be the system checking the CD rom every so often. I turned off auto insert notify in control and the problem went away. Try that as it costs nothing.

My brother has similar-ish problems on a very similar spec machine.
His is slightly different however. Q2/HL don't start at all. Not even in software. I thought it was a driver prob but even with latest drivers (trying all from CD version until newest) no joy. Even formatting doesnt help.
He ca play UT and Diablo 2 without problems. Hmm. If anyone can throw any light on this I'd be most grateful.

Yeah the same with some games work no probs Deus Ex for one and others like Homeworld are a right pain i am getting Windows ME which should help if not i may put my head in my moniter.
My brother can also play Deus Ex no probs.
