Lend me your knowledge please.......

I currently have a P3 500 and I want to upgrade to an 800 for obvious reasons. Anyway to the point, can i safely clock this to 1064...... ie 8*133 cos i'm buying 8*100 version. I have to check first whether my motherboard supports the 800 mhz CPU because its only rated to 650mhz, however it does support 133fsb, which I have ran my 500 at, i know about ram differences also but it seems to be able to handle it.

Thanks for any help

hmmm i reckon the resident :dork: overclocker Frag will be in but IMO i think with the 800 you *should* be able to hit the 1Ghz mark. :E HTH!

I currently have a QDI Brillianx 1s/2k with multiplier to 8x and 133 fsb ( i want 100fsb cpu for overclocking) and I currently have a flip chip 500, but i want slot one they look better :)my flip chip is in a converter.

I dunno why i want slot one apart from the reason above :)

hi erm bluwolf, reaching 1ghz isn't as easy as o'cing lower cpus. the heat just builds up so u need very effeective cooling, even that is not enough!. i've rarely seen 800 go to 1000mhz. this is becoz it's not only heat, it's to do with the quality of the chip, IMO i don't think u would reach 1ghz. as a few ppl have done in this form they have got a 700 or 750 and have got it to 1ghz more or less as there is more chancebecoz the multiplier is not too high. erm , go 4 a FCPGA coz there is better cooling available for it, some say it even overclocks more than slot 1. yeah, the FCPGA's die comes directly into contact with the heatsink providing better cooling.
HTH! :)

An 800 should hit 1GHz with decent air cooling, but don't expect much more, but make sure your mobo has options such as core voltage adjustment.
