lo d00ds
me and my m8 just bought a zoom home lan pci card each so that we could play lan games of counter-strike
this card was perfect for the both of us because it can a normal network cable and can be run through the phone line you can also use the phone while networking using the phoneline which is cool.
The Computers Realise each other are there and we tranfered files fine and decided it was time to play cs so i started up an lan game and waited for him to join... he couldn't my game won't appear in the lan game list and the only way we can play each other is buy manually adding the server through internet game....but this is jumpy for whoever joins the server and they don't have sound either which is a pain in the butt
We don't have a hub or we would use that to play using our network cable so the only to play the game is through the phone line
Anyone Know how to help me!!?
please iam desperate and my m8 wants sound i also thought lans where supposed to be lag free my m8 gets lag type jumpyness
:(

You're not making any sense m8. How can you be playing as a LAN using the phone line ???
If all you want to do is link 2 PC's together in the same location (ie same room or house) and you both have network cards that have RJ45 sockets then just buy a CAT5 Crossover cable with an RJ45 connector at each end. Because the wires are crossed you don't need a hub inbetween the 2 computers. Then just give each machine an IP address in the same subnet range. For example :
PC1 IP address : 192.168.0.1 Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
PC2 IP address : 192.168.0.2 Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Reboot them both and they will be on their own IP network and you should be able to see each other with no problems and no lag.

if it's win98 you have to have ipx/spx on it's a pain in the ass but we found that if we put that on then we could see each others computers :)
he said it can see the other computer because he can transfer files between the 2. He just can't play CS.

Maybe the phoneline cannot provide enough bandwidth. (TBH I can't see how this works anyway). :)
Try a crossover cable.

Had a look at the website now. Didn't know they had anything like that. To be honest I wouldn't really trust it and does anyone else think that its a bit misleading when they say "no wires to run" when each PC will have to use a "wire" to plug into the same phone socket ??
They say that it runs at 1MBps which in real-life is probably no more than 0.5MBps (although this should still be plenty for just 2 PCs).
To test how laggy the connection is go into DOS and do the following ping test :
ping -n 100 <insert the IP address of the other machine here>
Let it run till it stops (it will ping 100 times) and check out the min/max and average ping times. If its above say 50ms on average or has a very high maximum then that may be the cause of the lag and theres probably not much you can do to optimise it.
It wasn't very clear on the website but do you all have to plug into the same phone socket (and if so how would you get several on the same socket) or will any socket on the same line work ??
I still say get a crossover cable. At least you'll get consistent 10MBps across that.
If I was going to buy a Zoomtel prooduct the only thing thats interesting is the 11MBps wireless network kits. Shame they are so expensive.

No idea about the sound unless its something to do with bandwidth. Does it happen to the PC that joins the server no matter who is the server or is it just one machine ??
Have you done the ping test I recommended yet ?? It should show how reliable the connection is.

btw i was on about ipx/spx cos we found that the machines with out could not play on out cs tfc and hl servers but has soon has we put it on they could see them and join them
ps
we also edit one of the hl config files and put the machines ip number in there if that helps :)
I know is strange and you might have not have to do that to yours but it work on our setup :)
