I've just built my own PC, and after booting up for the first time, and installing all the drivers etc. i'm left with one conflict in my device manager under "other devices". Its called a "PCI Mass Storage Controller" and i'm guessing its something to do with the motherboard or hard disk? Anyway, Windows 98 SE cant find any drivers for it on the win98 CD, and the ASUS CD that came with my motherboard mentions it under the title "Promise Ultra IDE Controller":

5. Select the "PCI Mass Storage Controller" node and then click the "Properties" button.

6. Please select [General] page to reinstall driver or select [Driver] page to update driver.

7. Follow the instruction to insert your Windows CD or ASUS support CD to install the driver. (ASUS Support CD: \UltraAta\Win95-98)

But there is no UltraATA directory on the ASUS CD i've got. Does anyone else have an A7V or know what this is and how I can get drivers for it? I've looked on the ASUS website but can't seem to find anything.

ASUS A7V
Athlon 900mhz
128mb PC133 SDRAM
30Gb ATA100 7200RPM IBM Hard Disk
SB Live 1024
Diamond Supra Express Pro Int
Videologic 968 PCI 2mb vid card (temporary till I get my GF2)

Cheers,
Fand

It's the UDMA 100 controller, you should only need to install the drivers on the CD.
The drivers might be under "highpoint" or "raid" or something similar, i remember this question being asked severall times on the http://www.overclockers.co.uk forums (see sig for full url).

DOH! Silly me, it was in the "Promise" directory on the CD. It's listed it as a SCSI device on the list now the drivers are installed? I didn't think my motherboard had SCSI capabilities without an expansion card...
