I was reading a review today on the MS Sidewinder Gamevoice doohicky (http://www.dailyradar.com/hardware/hardware_review_626.html) and it didn't really come out in favour of it but mentioned Game Commander (http://www.gamecommander.com) quite a bit, has anyone used GC and found it to be any good? Also any seen a headset that doesn't go over your head but just clips to your ear (just like all good films :E ) but still has the Noise cancelling charecteristics.

i got game commander with windows(the one where you speak actions?) tried it for q3 and it was too slow, i only bound shotgun to test, and it took a couple of seconds to change.

may be fine for other games

Yeah I read on the GC formus about someone trying to speed it up as they had about a second delay. The GC forum admin said they where working to improve it on GC2 and after I read some more on the faq it looks like I'll have to wait for GC2 anyway as the current version isn't Win2k compatible, mumble grumble :(

I've had Game Commander MX (works with Voice Comms) since it was released last year.

I can't say I've found it very useful. It doesn't seem to like my Scots accent so some commands require retraining. Funnily enough it works fine when I impersonate an American :E

I also get strange looks from the rest of the family when I start talking to my computer :)

That said I have found it quite good fun for ordering around AI wingmen in flight and space sims.

As for mics both the Labtec LVA-7370 collar mic and the LVA-7330 head mount mic are great for GC and have excellent noise cancelling qualities.

CS,

There is a free UT compatible trial at http://www.gamecommander.com I tried it and quite liked it, but its not as quick as ,say, a mouse wheel. I use it when I need someone to talk to in my sad empty life......and I'm just messin with bots. I wouldn't use it in online firefights cos I get a bit fraught and you need to speak quite clearly.

BTW Yowie is right about putting on the US accent.

Cheers,
Dongle.
