If I have an ATA 33 master HD and an ATA 66 slave HD connected to the same IDE channel, will I loose the benfit of the ATA 66.

btw - My motherboard does support ATA 66.

Thanks,

I wouldn't think so, the ATA-66 drive will use it but the ATA-33 drive won't.

if they are on the same controller the controller will only work at the speed of the slowest drive therefore running at 33 in your case and this will slow all drives down to this speed.

Like Rigo said, I'm assuming you've got a cd or dvd rom so put this as a slave off the main controller sharing the cable with ata33 drive and put the ata66 drive on it's own on the ata66 controller. It won't affect the drive letters just make sure you've got your master/slave jumpers correct and the bios is set to detect the drives. BTW the ata66 uses a different style of cable so don't use a plain old ata33 cable as it'll still run at 33 still, a cable should of come with the mobo and don't expect uber speed increases as most reviews and comparisons I've seen can barely tell them apart :(
