Please can someone in the know tell me why my ping is 300-400 on madasafish 24/7 timezone but is ok on any other server in the UK. I have already posted on this page at great length, so dont ask about settings because they are all correct and dont make any difference anyway. Im sure it is a setting on the w/p servers that is effectively doubling my ping; which is strange because it is almost exactly double what it should be but very stable. I read another thread about virgin.net giving the same prob due to the data being sent on ntl's lines. Is this what is happening because it can only be this or a wireplay specific issue. I know there are a few others with the same problem and i just need some answers, so please could someone with more knowledge shed some light on the subject as i want to use w/p but its impossible at the moment in this situation. Again, my settings are all as they should be and every other UK or world server works ok. HELP!!!!!!!
Cheerz Kalimera......
hello kalimera
firstly, what game and which servers are you playing on?
some isp's do have problems with routing, particularly to the concert feed.
to get more info for us, get the ip address of the server you are using thats giving you a high ping, then, in a dos box, type: tracert xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
where the x's are the ip address, this will then show you the different hops and times and can help us find where the problem lies.
currently wireplay has servers on 2 seperate net feeds. the servers ip will either begin 212.140.... or 212.162....
if the 212.140... servers give you a bad ping, try severs on the 212.162...
throw a few details of the connection our way (a tracert would be smashin) and we can look at what would be best way for you to connect to our servers.
champ :)

Ok, here is the tracert you asked for, im not sure which ones you need but ill presume its the ones with a high ms timing, theres only a couple and theyre not that high so here you go, by the way im connecting to quake 3 tourney 3 with madasafish timezone.
220 206 233ms 193.113.158.62
206 220 220ms 194.74.74.71
219 234 219ms wp21.wireplay.net [212.140.216.21]
206 220 206ms bt-above-stm1.lhr.above.net [208.185.156.218]
There you go hope that has helped, any info really needed so please reply!!!, thanx in advance, Kalimera.........
Yo kalimera :)
thanx for the info - looks like madasafish use above.net to get to BT; and this is where the problem is.
Can you pls. post the whole tracert output (cut and paste from the DOS box) ?
Also try the Q3 svrs on the new Concert connection:
they all are EXCEPT these which are still on the BT connection:
1v1 OSP 1
clan 3
clan 4
classic
FFA 1 modem only
FFA 3
promode 1v1
Q3F BETA svrs (all of them)

OK - more info: you can actually see traffic graphs of Above.net's peering with BT at this URL:
http://stats.sjc.above.net/traffic/lhr/lhr-bt.html
Doesn't look maxed to me - maybe a problem for BTnet, then ?
Slash.
PS: Jeez I wish other ISPs would make these kinda stats public. Makes my life soooo much easier !
