Looks like your graphics card drivers are Fubar.

Do you have an nvida card?

Try uninstalling the driver software and removing the card (from device manager) and reinstalling with normal drivers
(ie the ones you got with your card)

If that don't work, try running HL in different display mode(software, direct 3D etc)

Yeah, it does sound like a prob with the graphics card drivers.

Try doing what Xellpher said (uninstalling and reinstalling it completely, with the latest possible drivers, if its an Nvidia card, you can get the new Detonator 3 drivers from http://www.nvidia.com/products/drivers.nsf/windows.html ) and then reinstall DirectX 7 (or 7a if poss).

It might also be worth reintalling Half-Life and re-patching it up to version 1.1.0.1 which you can get from our filemonster ( http://www.filemonster.com ).

Once you've done all that, try it again! :E
