Well, the BT scum phoned me up this afternoon and told me that an engineer will be round my house on September 29th in the morning to install the Home USB ADSL jobbie for me (subject to a line test etc. etc.) They said this was the earliest of all the installs…

Credit card details were given, including one months payment in advance (grrr)

They also said I would be able to share the connection over a network by just running each computer into a USB hub (although the man I spoke to said ‘don’t tell anyone I said this but….’ If you see what I mean ;))

So…two weeks from today and, maybe…just maybe…I’ll be cruising at 500k :)

Anyone else speak to openworld yet?

I spoke to OpenWorld today also - but I rang them.

They said that they'd be out to test my line shortly - within the next ten days.

Bollox.

I'm a bit unclear about how this USB hub sharing would work.

As far as I know a USB hub can only connect to one computer at a time.

I can easily see how you could share a ADSL USB modem connection through LAN Hub (using Internet sharing) but not a USB Hub.

BTW Snow did you get a confirmation email before you signed up or did they just phone you out of the blue?

Ok, here's the background info leading upto their call. Beware, you may hate me by the end of this ;)

Up until June 2000 I had been happily using Screaming net for the internet, but for various reasons I decided to change over to BT. So I phoned them up to do this, with the question forefront in my mind: 'will I be able to get free evening and weekend calls with surftime'. I DID NOT want to go back to paying loads for the internet bill ;)

So, BT being the lying mother****ers that thy are, told me that 'yes sir, as soon as you swap over you will have surftime for 5.99 a month' This was ok I thought, so I gave my details and officially went back to BT.

About a week later - phoned BT: "oh sorry sir, you infact won't be able to get surftime for another 2 weeks - until the end of june". Grrr I thought, but I suppose 2 weeks isn't that bad.

The end of June: "terribley sorry sir, but your exchange isn't enabled for surftime until the end of the month"

Ditto for July and August. :|

My bill came in August, obviously far larger than I'd hoped it to be had I been using surftime. I was prretty angry by this stage, so I phoned BT and told them I wasn't willing to pay for the evening calls to the internet, as they'd lured me back to their cocksucking company under false pretences. Eventually they knocked 30 quid off the bill, although I'm still not settling for that.

Anyway...whilst on the phone, I inquired about my ADSL pre-order and when I might get it. The guy said that he'd put me at the front of the que due to the **** up with me and surftime. I didn't believe him, but we left it with him calling me up the following monday with more information.

Of course, he didn't call, but the next day I phoned them to moan somemore etc. Eventually, someone called back to say that I would be getting the engineer round on the 29th september...

We shall see. I will report back of course ;)

I complained that i had crackling on my phone line and wasn't able to connect to the internet properly and they came round and cut off the extensions to the kitchen and bedroom! :{

Then I had ADSL installed..now i've got a high pitched buzzing in the background they can't do anything about and still no extensions in the bedroom and kitchen!!

Big deal, when I complained to BT, they gave me a grand to spend. Yes. 1000 pounds, english pounds sterling.

It's easy......... all you need is a balaclava and a sawn off shotgun.
