View Full Version : CABLE MODEM AVAILABILITY DOWN SOUTH
Hi!
i live in the brighton area and use Cable & Wireless. I have a Cable TV line but i wanna know when ill be able to get a cable modem. NTL have merged with C&W i think but it doesnt say i can have a cable modem on their site.
Does ne1 know when ill be able to get it?
Er, don't hold yer breath m8 - been looking into this for months as an alternative to adsl (haha).
When I phoned NTL they suggested C&W areas, including the one into which I recently moved, would not be "updated" to offer cable modems until well into next year - even though the cable's already there!
Still, it hasn't stopped the buggers shoving shed-loads of leaflets through my door offering every item on the NTL menu EXCEPT cable modems, tho - and seeing as I already have Sky they know here they can stick 'em!
Seriously tho, try giving NTL a ring - they might have a new provisional date, and my call was a couple of months back. You never know... :)
thx for ya help m8
ill ring 'em tomorrow - also where are ya when you say recently moved??

Bexleyheath SE London/NW Kent - moved here autumn last year and changed my mind about getting ISDN installed cos ADSL was "just around the corner" - but don't get me started on that! *fumes*
Asked NTL around June/July, and yes, in answer to earlier point, they bought out C&W early summer. Worth registering an interest tho, cos they're bound to prioritise upgrades in relation to demand.
Personally, I don't care who I sign up with, just as long as it happens soon! I am soooooo bored waiting :)
hehe - gl anyway
A few months ago I remember looking into CM for where I live (Lewes, that little town near Brighton that people visit once a year for Bonfire night ;)). From what I can remember I basically thought there was no chance I would ever get a CM, though you might be a bit luckier in Brighton (in Lewes we can't even get Cable TV :()
Not much help I know, sorry ;(
Ooops, forgot to say that a m8 of mine and I both pre-registered with BT SlightlyOpenWorld. While I've only received the "we will contact you when it comes" email, he's been told he should be getting ADSL about now :D
He lives just by the Old Stein, so if you are in central Brighton then ADSL might be the way to go - I've no idea what ADSL is like in the rest of Brighton.
Hope that is slightly more help :)

No way!!!!!!!
I live in Southwick!!! I'm just up from the top green!! :D
I phoned ntl and they told me that the infrastructure in our area needs upgrading cos it can't take the cable modems atm. Their implication was that it would be quite a while before they got around to doing it too :(
