sorry this is more cabletv than cablemodems as i know about lans.

right i will hopefully be getting blueyonder and digitalTV in about a months time and am hoping to network my house or at least prepare it so that it can be networked latter with minimum rewiring so i have a few questions.

1. what sort of arrangement are the cable box and CM in. does the cable modem come off the digibox or is there a splitter in the cable line. (im hoping to put both in a cupboard under the stairs)

2. do you need to have a digitbox for each tv (never had cable before), ie do you change the channel from the box or do you change channels using the tv/video after programing its channels for cable. if you cant change channels from the video/tv is their an alternative to getting a digibox for each tv.

3. any idea what sort of coaxle cable is need to extend the cabletv(i understand that you need cable that meets a standard like cat5 but for coax) and would it need a booster between branches.

thanks for any replies

hi,

Wot I say is from my own knowledge about cable (we have 3 cable boxes + 2 phone line :cheese: ), so it should be about right!
OK,
1. As far as i know, the cable modem has nothing at all to do with the digibox, I dont have t-west digital, but have standard cable boxes, but im sure they are not linked. In my room, I have a small white box on the wall, which has my Cable TV line coming from it, so when i get Cable (internet) installed I think it comes off that. From their newsgroups, ive heard they will install it pretty much anywhere, but I cant be 100% sure on that :)

2. With Active Digital you DO need a seperate subscription for each box. (only 1 box per tv), however with standard cable, which we have, we pay about £20/£30 for first box and then the other 2 boxes are a lot cheaper to have. HOWEVER! Telewest told us you cant mix analogue+digital, so you cant have one digibox and 2 standard boxes (which is wot we wanted really). You change channel with the cable box itself, as it is tuned into 1 TV channel. So i *think* you could have it on more than 1 TV, but it will be the same picture as the TV the box is attached to :)

3. I don't know wot type of cable it is (apart from its white and round LOL), but I'm sure they can make it longer if needed.

I hope this helped a bit :), try to phone telewest sometime to confirm any details before you get anything installed. They have a g8 tech support team.

For you cable modem they run a separate C0-ax feed to your PC..... They Take this connection from your digital temination point.

Yes you need a separate digi box for each TV (£15 for the second box per month).

You caould try to split your digital signal and run it to your second tv but the siganl level is critical. Its not like good old analogue where you can split it and you might see slightly reduced quality. With digital you either get a picture or dont!
