I'm using a version of W98 at the moment and as far as I'm concerned it's a stable operating system.
Is it worth upgrading to ME ? The only real benefit I can think of is that if I buy the £40 upgrade I'll have a *cough* legal version of an OS for the first time ever....

Are their any benefits with ME over 98 besides me being able to sleep soundly at night ?

Sound advice indeed :)

On a serious note, the er, new media player is a bit funky, however if you've got winamp it won't be that new to you.
You can have all the control panel options accessible from the Start menu and er... other things I'm sure.

I did however have something amazing happen with Win ME - I received a blue screen of death...

... and was then taken back to windows with the offensive program being shut down.

Amazing huh?
Nah you're right. Probably a one off.

NT style memory management?

Fk me they kept that one quiet.

That's reason enough to upgrade IMO.

If it aint broke don't fix it - that applies doubly for MS software as far as I'm concerned :E

Seriously though - I may not be much of a windows techy but I've survived quite happily by making sure I upgrade as LATE as possible whenever anything Microsoft is concerned. That way they get a chance to iron out all of the 'undocumented features'.

Lol

That's exactly why I upgrade each new OS ASAP - it's generally a huge bugfix for the previous OS :E

I Like it. 98 os with Win2k tweaks.
It hides a lot of stuff that some people invariably f8ck with so if you have little bruvvas or nosy flatmates, they won't know where to go to break it. Also, before you install something new, or upgrade drivers, you can make a recovery point. If it borks, then to return to the recover point.
Well worth it IMO.

Starts and shuts REAL quick.

Network users - No novell client that works as yet. (Not one that I've found anyway.)

The memory management is cool. I've had a few problems (see above Novell client note) where it was able to recover very well.

Well it took me 35 mins to load Windows Me and I haven't had a problem since. No network problems, new drivers in some cases and a lot faster in starting up the system.

In my opinion well worth the money.

I installed ME a few days ago, I have only had 3 hours to test it out but games have been running fine (I didn't really check for an fps increase though) it hasn't crashed yet and my internet connection seems to be going much faster, startup doesn't seem any better though.......

Still, well worth £40 if you use your PC a fair amount :E
