View Full Version : Forget about waiting for the BT email, just call
Got bored with waiting for my invitation email...so I phoned them up...and got an install date of 2 weeks from today...peice of piss....no problems at all...They just asked whether i had preordered...said yes but haven't received my email....no problem they said...
So don't delay, call today.
Bloody typical tho....they can't even stick to the rules they themselves set....can't complain too much this time cos its in my favour...lol

I would endorse that, get phoning, after being pissed around I got an install date.
From what I have read on usenet they don't even care if you pre-registered, they will still give you free install.
Except one guy who phoned got told that pre-reg was down the pan and he would have to pay install fee even though he had pre-registered on time.
This really sucks, OK I have got my install date, but how many people are checking the Openworld web site and diligently waiting for their email while others who haven't even pre-registered get priority installs.
I hope that BT get a public flogging over this. I have already checked Shiva's OFTEL complaint url and will be posting something soon.
I hope everybody else who gets stuffed by this does the same.
Woohoo! Well done that man.
Cross yr fingers and pray it wks m8....here's hoping.........now if only I didn't have to move I could ring 'em up...BUGGER!!!! Hope my pre-reg doesn't go down the pan although it looks like that's pretty irrelevant now........

Well, I took the advice offered on this thread, and unfortunately I got no joy :(. I spoke to a woman who told me I'd have to wait until I got the Email before I could call to organise my booking.
Additionally, she told me that there was a delay for BT Highway customers, so people with BT Highway will have to wait 'a few weeks more' before they get their Emails.
Another case of BT wanting to squeeze the last few pounds out of ISDN before they lose it to ADSL? :(
-Shiva-
Think before you post your msg man, now everyone knows they can get an install date without your bloody msg, er.. then it raises the risk of BT delaying YOUR install date again because of too much load for them, idiot! no offense though.
I rang them up today, and got an install date in 2 weeks (3rd Oct) but the damn thing is, my credit card is still in used by BTinternet, so they can't use it until I ring BT and clear my record, which will take 3 days !! :( mother F**kers BT.
Oh yeah, and they didn't give a flying F**k about if you have registered b4 the 30th of June or not, they ask, all I had to say is yes. And when they asked if i got the invitation mail, I just started to kick off with them totally saying that I should've got it last week as promised, so the guy had to back off and do what I said hehehe. What da man !
ok, I hope this time BT is not lying ..
JH
No offence? CHoose your words a little more carefully then m8.
Look, I have an install date of the 3rd of october...any other install dates people get as a result of my message will be after this...so what, exactly, is the problem? They will be scheduled after this date.
And the reason I phoned was because of another little message saying pretty much the same as mine...it was just hidden away.
Share the knowledge m8, thats what I say. Without other peeps in this forum telling me stuff, I would know less.
And please don't call me an idiot again. :)

Shiva m8,
Please can you post the number which you called for this? I called the 0800 number listed on the Openworld website (for home users) and got no joy.
Please pass me the number, I can't wait any longer!!
Ta...
Thanks for the info Shiva bro, shame I haven't got a credit card will that matter? :(
Shiva man can you give me the number, pleeeese :{
"Here come the Welsh you flaming BT idiots, you better be ready for me and don't give me any of that wait for the e-mail bullsh1t I've waited long enough.........ahghghghghgh"
Here is the full email, grabbed from another source. (i aint got it yet, but this is where i got the number from)
Dear Customer,
We're delighted to inform you that you can now confirm your order for BTopenworld by either calling 0800 085 0511 or by visiting our website - http://www.btopenworld.com
To place your order you'll need the following:
- the telephone number for which you placed your original pre-order for BTopenworld
- which BTopenworld product you require
- to have checked your hardware requirements:
- BT standard phone line and account;
- a PC with the following minimum specifications:
- Windows 98 / 2000,
- Pentium 166 MHz processor,
- 32 MB System memory, CD-ROM drive
- Video/graphics card
- 150 MB free hard disk space and
- a free USB slot.
- your preferred installation date
- your credit card details available (Visa or Mastercard)
And finally, if your BT line is within a suitably equipped BT telephone exchange area - there's now only one thing standing between you and our exciting high speed
Internet service, and that's the successful completion of your line test. If it passes the test, you should be up-and-running with BTopenworld very soon.
We look forward to receiving your confirmed order.
Yours faithfully
Marc Deschamps
Chief Operating Officer Broadband, BTopenworld
Just phone the number...and if they won't let you, kick up a fuss bout "should have had it a week ago!!!"
Never hurts to try...
but i get the feeling you WILL need a credit or debit card....I used a visa debit...
Good Luck!!!
Made a call just now, and even told the lovely sounding girlie on the other end that my mate, who lives just down the road has had his confirmation  She said that they have to be working on your exchange to be able to give you a installation date.
I told them that I usually use my PC while dressed as a Peruvian Milk Maid but that didn't help.
Please can someone (perhaps Shiva m8) let me know how good it it when you get it so I can be really p1ssed off, I wish I had patience then I could wait, perhaps it's something to do with OFTEL eh jap ahghghghghghgh :(
yeah m8, no probs. will post back my results. Has your exchange definitly been enabled? Mine has been since march...If it says it is on their webby then just tell them it has been enabled...and you are worried that you have been missed out of the email confirmations...
Worked for me...
give it another go m88, i reckon...
Good luck again!

Well i checked my email today still to find no invitation so i gave them a call earlier today and got install date of 4th october woohoo
then i came on icq and someone sent me a message with a link to this site in it.
give them a call everyone !!
:)
Having the site say your exchange is enabled doesn't mean a whole lot. The site said mine had been when i first applied. I got an installation date.. day before installation they phoned and said sorry your exchange hasn't actually been built yet. Was put off for another 2 weeks. Even then you have to wait til the engineer comes to your home to find out whether your line is suitable or not.

Queen of Doom..lol
Well, I rang the number the young lady above gave me
and got a date 10 days from now for the line test
I found this gem on the uk.telecom.broadband ng

I've just written the ADSL availability checked for the ISP I work for,
and it uses the data that BT provide. It is a joke. For starters it's
way out of date, they are still distributing the data from June, and
secondly none of the data relates.
AFAIR:- 1) Phone number search will give you a yes or no, this
search is based on a list number ranges which can, anything else is a no.
2) Postcode search, again a limited set of data split into
postal prefixes and suffixes, the possibilities here are - a) Probably
Ok, (b) Probably Ok Soon (c) Probably never going to be done (never being
the next 3 years ??)
3) Finally was the exchange search, which we didn't use cos
not enough people know the name of their exchange, which simply says yes
upgraded, when too be upgraded (Most say March 2000?) or not scheduled
yet.
Potentially you can get a Yes, Probably never, scheduled to be done 6
months ago answer. If that's any use to you, or anyone, then brilliant,
as far as I can see it's a token gesture on par with the rest of BT's
organisational skills :-(
Or then again, it could be the bug they mentioned?

Also somebody that booked a date for install yesterday got a call from Openworld asking to schedule an installation.
I can't remember what's speculation and what's fact but it seems as if BT's database *ucked up and let anybody register for a while. It then booked everybody for installs around the same time -2nd or 3rd Oct and they cannot do these.
I would like to think that this is not true.
I would like to think that if this is true I may get an install anyway cos when they asked me if I would like 3rd I said no thanks - give me the 6th.
However I have come to realise that no matter what I do, to try and get an openworld install BT will thwart me.
Where are you now Jap Boy?
Cheers for the info, just for everyone else's info I don't seem to have a credit card that BT like ahghghghghggh the b@asards am I destined to be on this dreaded modem for the rest of my life........
BT Woman...."Sorry Sir but we only take credit cards handed out in Mars on the 30th February...1922....and you must have been wearing a pair of shiny shell suit bottoms and a pair of loafers at the time, one last qualifying point Sir, Do you own a pet Guppy that goes by the name of Maurice...No Sorry then Sir, we won't be able to give you ADSL until you meet this qualifying criteria......... ahghghg:eek:

lol Big D, whilst I feel your pain :(, that was some funny **** ;)
howdy all,
I'm a bit gutted now :(
I read the posts yesterday and thought... register register when I get home from work, inspite of no email.
I'm with BTinternet paying annually for starters, anyway i thought I would go through the website ordering system, got most of the way, then, bosh sorry you have to wait for your invite... D'OH!!!
so having re-read all of the posts, I can't wait to get home and phone them up, but the BTinternet thing sounds like a bind ;( Hopefully they will still give an installation date.
Cheers anyway, *fingers crossed*
DahFish. <-- a pre-registered member of take'em for a ride :)
P.S. I have no probs with BT, however I would appreciate an honest response for isntallation timescales, if they think it will take months, then say so, don't state unattainable and frankly unrealistic dates, it just creates impatience.

I've phoned up everyday since last Friday & evrytime I get "Your order is being processed, You'll be contacted over the phone with the result of your line test within the next 10 days."
The only problem with that from 9-5 I'm not home, and from 6 I'm online.
/me is off to purchase an answer machine.
Grrr
Oi Serpico, what wrong with your Shoe, looks kinda nice to me, a cross between a Sandal and a Hush Puppy
Guess the mini gold rush is over - some noddy brain at Openworld this morning confirmed they had been giving out install dates by phone cos database had screwed up (as mentioned elsewhere), but they're back up and running and now we'll all just have to wait...and wait...and wait :(

Got the same response. What a bugger.
evening,
well I got home and phoned them up.
D'OH! he wouldn't budge at all saying that I would have to wait my turn inspite of pre-ordering in May!!!
BTinternet account has to be reset as they say you can only pay for 1 BT service per credit/debit card :( DOH! thankfully I get to keep my email addy, I have emailed the Billing enquiries so we shall see in 48hrs.
Booger!
I noticed that they have upped the pooter spec from a P166 to a P200MMX inspite of the modem manufacturers (Alcatel) stating a P166... wierd, my gateway pooter is a P166 nm have to use meh other one.
Cheers <--- yeah right!

Try signing up on the website, I haven't received the E-mail and I was able to complete my order on-line.

The best way is to sign up via the wep page, ring up first to get your reference number, just have a moan at them for a bit and they will give it out (Thats what I did :)), and it doesn't matter if you have Bt internet on the same credit card as you want to use to pay for ASDL so long as you sign up via the wep page, to do it over the phone you need a credit card that doesn't have a BT account on it (Why I have no idea), oh well three weeks till my installation date (Firday 13th, maybe I should change it lol)
Cheers Turb
Friday the 13th oooooh :vampire:
let me know how it goes, I've got my installation (according to the webby) on Monday 16th

um in case you ever thought it was bad getting ADSL, I tried for HH in 3 different houses in Portsmouth and they either..
a) sent the engineer on the wrong date missing me completely
b) after ringing up about (a) they couldn't find any reference to me booking HH and couldn't find my house on there system now anyway
c) next house... "sorry please can you check with your post office what your correct address is as I can't find it"....
I'm still laughing at that one.
d) Tried registering through the webpage.. heh.. bummer.
*after this this led me to send a letter of complaint to them which they promptly ignored* :)
e) Called recently and "an engineer will call me back within 5 working days... " this was like, 12working days ago.
All in all, 14months worth of wasting my time.
Finally discovered ADSL was due here anytime soon anyway.
I just want something faster than this modem ffs, even if it's through BT :)
