Nope, no need for panic :)

Quote from front page:

FUEL: NEW PANIC
Petrol companies said there was no need for panic-buying after false reports that tanker blockades had returned to refineries. Queues built up at many forecourts

Umm......sorry guys, but the drivers at Stanlow HAVE gone on strike, as of this morning. My office rang me to let me know that Shell had rung them, so it's from the horses mouth, as it were.

tis all a bit wired this one, we were told by the police where I work that the tanker drivers were going on strike from midnight and the fuel protestors were joining them :)

Cue more mass hysteria :)

Maybe it's a rumour spread by the petrol companies themselves to sell more juice? :D

Scandalous? Naaaaah ! Tip of the ice-burg, m8.:)
Scandalous? How about the fact that most big oil companys made drivers sign new contracts about 10 years ago, taking away union recognition in any dealings between them and the company. The rest put the majority of work out to contractors.:(
Scandalous? how about being forced to work 11.5 or 12 hours a day driving a forty ton bomb, trying to make schedules set by a f***ing computer that thinks all the roads have no traffic on them, & all drivers don't get tired or want to stop for a p***! - Is it really safe to be driving 32000ltrs. of petrol (or avaition fuel)11.5 hours after you first got into the cab ? Anyone who drives a car will know how draining a 4 or 5 hour trip can be. Imagine driving a 40 ton, sometimes unstable (all that liqued sloshing around, you see)lorry full of petrol for 12 hours a day!
Then having the pressure of knowing that your performance is constantly being monitered by a bunch of penny-pinching accountants; with no other agenda than trying to save an already mega-rich muli-national company a few quid ( whilst trying to keep the company image as spotless as they can, of course).
I hope the tanker-drivers DO go on strike...But will they?
Naaaaah no chance !

Ex-tanker driver.

Shame we can't be all fair and stuff, and get an oil suit in to reply to some of the stuff people have been writing.

But then I guess we'd have to get Brown, Blair and someone from Opec on too. Not a pretty sight :)
