View Full Version : Dreamweaver 3 & Mac Problems???

Using Dreamweaver 3 on a Mac I've run into a bit of a problem with special characters (echelons & bullet points specifically). While these characters appear correctly in Preview, when I upload them to the server the characters are substituted for some bizarre characters.

I suspect it's the character encoding in Dw3 that's causing the problem - however this doesn't seem to happen on PCs which makes me suspicious that it's a error in the Macintosh version of DW.

Any ideas/advice would be most welcome.

I have found the answer to my problem - but I thought it best to warn anyone else using Dreamweaver3 on a Mac. Apparently the English version of Dreamweaver has a known problem (why they don't sort it out I don't know!?!) where if you simply type a special character, it doesn't automatically convert it to the equivalent HTML entity (e.g. ö)- this means that on a windows system the characters displayed are different, i.e. bullet points becoming ampersands etc.

For more info check out http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/localized_encoding.htm

Well researched! I didn't have a clue, but that sounds typical - more a problem caused by Windoze than anything else I suspect.

I don't know if many people here worry about Macs when designing - although I'd be the first to admit we should be! But we don't all have a Mac and a PC to check out our sites :)
