Hi,
I have access to both, Blue Yonder and ADSL.
However, I'm not sure which one is better.
ADSL will cost £40 and B.Y. £33 a month.
ADSL runs at 500kps and B.Y. 512kps (Allegedely!)

So lets cut all the technicall crap and get down to business. Which one is better for on-line game i.e. Counter Strike and......er.....Counter Strike!

I hear Cable modems slow down, if too many people are using the local exchange/server. Doesn't this happen with ADSL?
But rumour has it that Telewest are upgrading their service, making their connections alot faster and constant.
Is this a reality or another 'PR Blag'?
I'd appreciate any advise.

P.S. Wrupert Wrules !!!

You could just do a search of this forum and get loads of different views.

Cable seems to be good at times then totally **** others and my only knowledge of ADSl from 2 trialists I know is that its worse than ISDN, ping wise.

Perhaps they will upgrade it, but thats only so they can fit more people on :E

well you willg et lots of views but at the moment ADSL is untested really its only just come ut but cable has more back to it BUT it has been know to be rather poor on the packetloss side sometimes which aint good for games. BUT i would try and find some one in your are and see what they are getting check on both services and try find some one in your areas performance.

I persoannly would go For ADSL but that is cos the perminet conection from it and also the massive speed increas plnaed for the future... long way of but i think id get it now.

but Depending where you are really does effect ping and service quality some on ADSL get low pings some get very high and the same with Cable.

Basically what can you aford and what do you like the look of

go for cable ... thier bringing out a 1Mbps service for around £50 pm once they figure out how to get the upgrades workin :0)
i'm in the north and the service is usually great ...last 2 days have been smelly pants as far as browsin goes but DL speeds even with the 512k service is around 70kBytes/sec and average pings to UK and EU games servers around 30-40 ...

Its down to personal choice, take a look at whats included in the package.. i have 512k ADSL at the mo, but I could upgrade to a 2MB package if i wanted, but i dont see the point, i'm perfectly happy getting 60kbps downloads and with an average ping of around 40 in CS, i dont see how it would help...

Included in my package eventually will be video on demand as well as the usual portal stuff...

it really is a personal choice, i dont know much about cable, but from what i've heard, theres nothing much to choose between the two.

at the minute you have a much higher chance of getting the cable as BT isnt exactly cooperative on the adsl front (not that i can get cable or adsl for a couple of years here in north wales..)

Well People, thanks for your replies.
I'm still just as confused though! I guess the only thing for sure, is that everyone has different views!

Basically I don't care about extras, all I want is 'raw' speed.
I'll probably wait till mid-November, by which time there should be a better analysis of both services.

Cheers.
