View Full Version : Blue Yonder Vs NTL, Which should I go for?
I've decided to opt for Cable Modem over ADSL.
Now my problem is, Which Cable Modem?
Is NTL any faster?
I don't care about any 'extras', all I want is 'raw' speed for surfing, dl and gaming.
Any ideas?
P.S. Wrupert Wrocks!!!

You probably won't have any choice, unless you want to move house ;)
You need to find out which one of them your area is served by, if at all. Go to their webbies and type in your post-code and see what they say.
As far as I know, there are no regions in the UK served by more than one cable supplier...?

wrupert..
Shrubbery here is in my CS clan....he has cable with NTL, i have cable with Blueyonder
i will tell you the truth about Blueyonder now...and i know for a fact that it's the same with NTL...
both are fine as long as they are running at 100% efficiency.
At the moment, both NTL and Blueyonder are in the process of upgrading their services and so the effiecency of the cable modem drops considerably (70 ping rather than 30, can cause nasty packet loss at times when gaming)
this said though, it's only a temporary thing and will be resolved in a few weeks...
as said by shrubbery, whether or not you go for NTL or Blueyonder is dependant upon where you live
NTL only support 2 cable modems. A weird 'shark fin' looking 3Com one and the motorola one :(
Got mine in today :)

Yeah but MachMan, you do realise you have to register your connection on the HLCCL4 webby, and you can't use your new cable modem till at least a week has passed?
Shame you are playing us this Sunday :E

You can use the modem, almost as soon as you have it installed, just ring up and give them the MAC address, it takes about 30 minutes and you're off :)
You don't even need your user name password, as it works off the MAC address, you'll need them to get your email, but not access.
/me no got NTL email set up on ICS server
/me can't be bothered to set it up, when I use a different e-mail service
/me wubs my CMX
