Just played the demo, bloody brilliant!
I'm a bit of a closet TA fan really, but this looks better!
Oh I'm also into Homeworld.:)
In the demo, the 3rd mission becomes a time limited affair. Now personally I hate that, but I was wondering if theres much like that in the full game?
I've read that some of you have finished it, can you compare it to the above regarding difficulty, similarity etc?
Ta in advance!
hi and welcome
in the game, its very different to the demo. time based missions are a rarity really, there is a few, (the nasty one though the jungle springs to mind) and i dont like that sort really, but the detruction ones are excellent. plus, something the demo doesn't show is the amazingly class plot.
also the online game is really a brain mangler, you actually have to be a thinking man to win. tactics are EVERYTHING!
hope you join us, its a very good purchase.

Hmm these are personal choices here, and may not reflect the overal trend.
So personaly at the moment i prefer the drop in games, where you do just that, you can join or leave whenever you like, if you join a game where people are already playing, then try and balance the teams up by changing your number tag. when that particular game finishes it automaticaly rolls onto the next game, with the same players, unless of course someone exits or new people join. I've spent a whole evening just in one continous rolling game. Another aspect of the drop in game, is that quite often i've scrolled down the server list and found nothing much going on, so i'll choose a server and just enter the game map on my own, but its not usualy too long before some else scrolls down the server list and spots 1 player in the map, so they drop in on the game, sometimes this had ended up with 6 or 8 players either in two teams of 4 or 4 teams of 2, and we've all had a rollicking good time. These drop in games are either high score related or max time related, or in the case of flagzones the first team to get all the flagzones wins.
If your looking for prearranged 1v1 games or 2v2 3v3 etc, then you go to the standard game option. Here you can set up your own game either for prearranged games with m8's, or just letting anyone join. At the game set up options, you choose the game options, and which map, and server to use. Now i'm not so keen on joining games in the standard game, because somtimes you get the odd guy who is new and hasnt a clue, whilst most peps try and help the newbies including myself, it does nonetheless hold things up and wastes playing time.
Also some of the guys who set games up then dictate what you can and cant have as your own chosen forces. I usualy exit and just go and find another game, on the basis that know one should tell me what i can and cant play with. It would be different if you were playing a clan game and your clan leader wanted this or that, but i dont see the need for little dictators in the ordinary sense of the game. Mostly these types dont want you to use the shields option if you are the Order of the Dawn, (which i usualy am) and they are usualy the Crayven.
It is argued that the game design is unbalanced at the moment and that there will be patches out soon to redress the balance.
If i set up a game myself, i couldnt care a hoot who chooses what when it comes to choosing and configuring your squads, if they beat me, what the hell, if i beat them great, tis jest a game.
I could write loads as to the best this and the best that, but i reckon its better that you find these things out for yerself because every ones ideals are different.
One time wasting disadvantage with the standard game, is that once its finished then you have to go back to the chat room and choose another game, or set up another game. Sometimes there can be a dozen peps in the chat room, but no games on the go so to speak, in these cicumstances i've tried setting up my own 3v3 game, and you can sit fer ages wating fer someone to join, strangely much longer than you would in the drop in game.
Now if you had a good team/clan going then the standard game offers much better scope for prearranged games on icq or from here on the NB (and you can password the game) this is where i feel that voice comms between team members could greatly enhance the game, especialy if you mentaly split the map into grid references, you could then advise your partners as to your movements, and vice versa. Of course you can already do that with the keyboard but its time consuming, and i've learnt that speed in movement from one GR to another is very important if you want your team to win.
My favourite winning tips are..........naw i aint telling yer that
When you get the game gis a bell and i'll set up a private password game and break you in gently
You'd better add me to yer icq 81837535
