Right everyone who was asking about the "new" cable modems using NTL digi boxes. The plans to launch them have been shelved for a while. The reasons are
1.Not all the networks have been upgraded
2.Not all areas are using the latest software and therefore dont have access to even the walled internet that NTL host
3. At present there isn't enough bandwidth on the exhisting network which would cause the system to crash
On the plus side the feeling is that once the analogue cable tv goes it will free up the needed bandwidth.NTL definately want ppl to access the full internet using either atv or pc via the digi set top box.Its probably 12 to 18 months off and it's really down to cost.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but hopefully it has answered a few questions.

m8 I'm assuming you work for NTL or know alot about how they work ?
See if you can tell me this.
Atm we have 3 analoge cable boxes in the house. NTL say (when i spoke to them about 3 months ago) that you are only allowed one digi box. Fair enough, but they say that you can't have both digi and analogue in the same property. So kinda fecks things up if i can only have one box in my house when we want 3.

N0o0o0o0 Im gunna be stuck with this modem forever :bigcry:
Nor - I'm with NTL, and I did have 2 analogue boxes in the house. When I upgraded to digital, they installed 2 digital boxes and charged me £25 (I think) for the extra box.
I don't know if you can have 1 analogue and 1 digital box though.
Hope that helps:)

nor you were told a load of nonsense. You can have up to 3 digi boxes in one house. And thats due to the fact that the strength of the signal degenerates when it goes through various splitters and F connectors. As for not being able to have digi boxes and analogue boxes thats purely a marketing ploy as they dont want you to have both and want to run solely digital. The network at the minute has FM, analogue and digital running on it so there isn't an engineering reason why it wont work.

I think the main problem is that the two networks (NTL&C&W) are running to different spex, the C&W is more advanced. And they need to be brought into line so that all NTL cust can get the advantages of the C&W and vice versa. It's a case of don't run before you can walk. Also C&W were economical with the truth as to what the network was capable of. It is a big dissapointment because of the prices they quoted for the speeds. On the ADSL front,I have a mate who is on the project team for ADSL and he says thay sill have major problems. And that it is being rushed out even though it still falls over for no apparent reason.

PS I am still waiting for them to lay cable to my house so I sympathise
Bloody hell i can't believe they come out which such billox. I'll call them again and try and get digi in then, ta for your help m8y. :)
Okay just phoned NTL, apparantly 3 digi boxes isnt a problem :) The girly is finding out about the cable modem but should be ok i'm assuming, i don't know if the cable point will count as a box though, meaning 2 boxes plus a box combined with my cable modem point. Not a problem anyways. Thanks for help m8y, much obliged.
