It looks at both ADSL and Cable but also talks about Ethernet revolution (Swedish enjoy 10Mbits/sec) as well as Satellite and also after ADSL which sees a load of other xDSL version with the most promising being VDSL.

The golden rule still applies to all conections - Your connection is only as fast as the slowest link in the chain.

Worth a read.

You'd think unsupported leased lines would have dropped significantly by now, but even 64k's are out of most peoples grasp, would make the perfect alternative to ISDN & constant connect rate/ping

SDSL is launched next year ( according to BT. So could be a lot longer ) which means something like 2.3mbit downstream AND upstream. They might get a bit funny with homeusers wanting it at home however as they seem adamant it's for Service Providers. Guess we'll have to see, but for now the big excitement for me is definitely ADSL Business. I'd imagine BT will put SDSL Pricing out of Home Users reach and ( hopefully ) sell it as an alternative to Leased Lines which could possibly mean a price drop for LL then. erm.

VDSL is 55.2Mbits/sec down and 2.3Mbits/sec up but this is only over a distance of 300m so the average rollout is likely to be 25.92Mbit/sec down and 1.6Mbits/sec up. VDSL is unlikely to be here for some time yet though :)

um noteworthy is that soon as you get beyond the 2mbit territory the speed differences would be minimal, transatlantic links, congestion etc all taking into account, realistically 250k/sec is about as sweet as you can expect for a while for home users, and, to be honest, is pretty damned good compared to what we've had to put up with. A theoretical 15meg per min should be enough for anyone I'd have thought. Although at least with the advancement in technology from this point on for a few years prices should drop ( or in the case of BT, come in different packages designed to rip you off *just that little bit more* ). Just 5 more days until my exchange is converted... meeeeooooow etc.

oo no paragraphs.
