Herbert is looking for a US drive next year, so he figures he's got to put on a good show at this race.

Off to a cracking start when he's the first to stack it into the wall on the banking on Friday.

The Jaguars then have their worst qualifying this season.

He starts on drys and completes the first lap in last place.

But wait... he starts making up places and is looking good for a fourth place at least...

...but then he comes in for his pitstop, gets the angle wrong, knocks over two mechanics, one of whom drops his air gun onto the front wing thus requiring a 20-sec odd stop for a new nose cone.

Oops. Man, is he the unluckiest F1 driver or wot?

yes well, although jonny has had a great deal of bad luck i still despise him for winning the brit gp in the benetton :( cos that was just plain luck in its self

he is clearly never going to make an f1 come back and so if he cant do it here i cant see why he should be able to do any better in usa, where he has never driven the cars or the tracks before-lets face it he is going to be a failure there too

How can you despise him for winning a Grand Prix? If memory serves, Hill took off Schumacher, and Coulthard then got a 10 second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, so Johnny came through to win. At Monza Hill took off Schu again. At the Nurburgring everyone went off the track or got a puncture.

Although all 3 of Johnny's victories have been a bit fortunate, I've always thought that there was a good dose of 'staying on the track when everyone else was falling off it' about them. Hardly a reason to despise him (def: to look upon with contempt).

As for USA, since the cars aren't quite so physical to drive (just what I've read, no personal experience :) ), I reckon he might do okay. His ankles have never 100% since the F3000 crash, but the Indycars might be better suited to him. Doesn't know the tracks? No, but neither does Button in F1, nor did Villeneave, and Mansell in Indycars... three examples of drivers who didn't know the tracks but did okay.

whilst i respect that thoes drivers have done well there are also others that have not been quite so gleaming in sucess. also we must not forget that herbert is not getting any younger and is definatly not getting any quicker.

my point realy is that herbert is an older driver at the end of the road, running out of options, where as the drivers u said are certainly not in that position and have chosen togo there. they also notabley have a hell of a lot more skill that herbert does, i personaly think that the team that takes him on will be making a mistake. like u said his ankles have never been 100% so if he has a big off which is very likley in usa he may do more harm than normal to him. anyway if i wanted to support a dirver that made positions up by waiting for others to fall of the road in front (which is most of the grid in herberts case) i would choose some one other than him
