Ye Bugger. I did not even think of that and I started the thread. So does that mean Ghost in the Shell a close second?

Ok non-animated big screen movies from now on. :E

If we're sticking to live action I've gotta say X-Men.

Blade was a pretty good film too but, let's be honest, the comic wasn't exactly great. It's not like they had a lot to live up to.

Have to say too that I don't rate the first Batman film. It has some nice moments but the characterisation's all over the place. "I'm Batman, I do not kill... except when I bomb a factory full of henchman... or launch an almighty air assault on main street... or push this guy down the clocktower..."

If Bats doesn't mind kitting his Batmobile out with twin 20mm cannons why doesn't he just have at it and use a gun like any normal vigilante?

I do have high hopes for the upcoming 'Year One' film though. Should finally deliver to the screen the Batman we all know and love. :batman:

Still not seen X-men yet. :E

And Weasel, you noticed that too then!! Was a bit crap/lame to destroy the Batman character that way but not bad attempts from Burton. I enjoyed the second one more anyway....which has the same problems. :E

Lets be honest......there's not a lot o good ones to choose
from.
The animated ones are of course the best but they don't really count do they.

Looking at all the big ones

Batman (pretty good...but the hype killed it for me)

Batman Forever (too hollywood-corney....but ok)

Batman & Robin (give me a break)

Superman (A classic but dated in its moral values)

Spawn (The lead character was completely un-charismatic)

Judge Dredd (The less said about this one the better)

Tank Girl (good(ish) but they gave her a name and morals ....MORALS!!!)

X-Men (Very good but was overall really a big pilot for the coming sequels)

Blade (Again very good but was really just a vehicle for Snipes)

The Mask (Depends if you like Carrey but again wears off
pretty quick...how many of you out there claim to have seen this one hundreds of times)

The Shadow (don't make me laugh)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (vomit)

The Punisher (pretty good but suffered from a cheap budget)

Dick Tracy (too Disney)

Mystery Men (only ok really)

Which leaves me with three left.

1: Flash Gordon (everybody likes this movie, its a real honest conversion from the comic

But who reads flash Gorden comics.... be honest.)

2: Batman Returns (after getting the initial pilot rubbish
out of the way with the first one Tim Burton made an admirable sequel with a decent script.
Rare for a comic book film)

But the overall best comic to movie conversion has to be......

The Crow.

The whole family death thing brings a whole different
perspective on this movie which really puts it aside from the others.
But if were talking about the film, its got integrity
energy, great actors, great director ,set design, music, one fansatic script and is the only comic book to really be emotional and 100 percent true to the comic
at all.
(But that's my opinion)

Wow I have seen the light.

Blade sneaks in at a close 3?? No??

I loved Batman Returns such an atmospheric and well directed movie. Keaton rulled.

The Crow. A great film wished that I could honestly say that I had read the books before the movie. Unfortunatly I missed that pleasure and saw the film many times and new it too well. When I read the comics I had built up an Image (no pun intended) already which the book did not have.A bit arse about face really :E I can see what you mean having said that.

Spawn could have been so much.......

My vote would haave to go to either Nikolai Dante or Sinister Dexter. These films would have all the requisite action, violence and humour. They'd be perfect!!

While I do like the Crow I still think the film's script is lacking. The anti-smoking diatribes are painful to listen to and the addition of a 'plot' I think only weakens the heart of the piece.

The Crow was born out of a single act of random violence. There was no point to it. No gain from it. Only the aftermath of pain and destruction. It's a very emotional story and I think the film would have been greater if it had kept that simple purity instead of trying to add motives and agendas that linked everybody to an inevitable end.

True...true....but i still thing it was the best out of the lot.
I think we'll have to see what the X-men sequel will be like.
I still would kill to see Hellblazer as a movie though.

(fingers crossed)

Hellblazer would be fantastic. Problem is americans always tone down the characters (seen the US version of Cracker anyone?).

We'd probably get a New York based Constantine who no longer smokes and is a reformed alchoholic who no longer touches a drop. Oh, and he also enjoys helping old ladies across the street... :{

Shame they scraped Preacher but it would have been toned down too much BOO.

First choice has gotta be Clint Eastwood, only I severly doubt he'd wanna do it.

Someone mentioned Paul Newman was been cast for the Batman Beyond movie which I thought was pretty good. He's got the grizzled tough guy looks and the gravelly voice too. He should be good.

I've always thought Newman would be a fantastic Comissioner Gordon. The role of Gordon has been tragically underplayed in all the Batman films. Just look at Year One, Dark Knight, Long Halloween..he's such a strong character.
Also, on a similar note, hands up if you thought Bruce Campbell would have been the ultimate screen Batman. The chin, the eyes, the thinly veiled sarcasm. One of the great missed opportunities methinks.
As for the best page to screen, it's gotta be Men In Black

:homer: Doh! I agreed with ya word for word right up until that last line!

I didn't like MiB. I thought Will Smith's presence as Will Smith totally took over the movie. Also, I thought the finale was a little weak. I may not be queing up to see MiB 2, but if they make 'Worm Guys:The Movie' I'd definitely go see that! :)

A FAREWELL TO ARMS

as a STRAIGHT comic to film conversion (at the time) Superman is the most authentic.

Any film where bruce campbell stars as an action hero just rules - does anybody else think Evil Dead 2 was one of the best films ever made

:mrt: I pity da foo who dont have a chainsaw for a right hand

as Sam Raimi is directing Spiderman Bruce is almost certainly going to be in the film somewhere, wouldnt he be great as either the scorpion or J Jonah Jameson (Complete with Huge Cigar)

also seen New Nightmare again the other night & i never relised it before but at the start of the film the young Freddy who chops his right hand of is played by everyone's favourire deadite destroyer
